Do you have to pay maintenance fees for Developers points on a new contract?

thanks
Jeff

You don't actually 'own' developer points. They are not part of your contract, do not have a home resort nor a use year month.

They are 'owned' by DVC and are given to you for your personal use. Since you don't actually own them, there are no maintenance fees.

OK another ? on developer points. Do they show up in your points status on the website? Just asking.

Thanks

No they don't. Also when you make a reservation with developers points you won't see the reservation on the website.

What are the restrictions as to how far out you can use developers points to make a reservation?

Jeff

Let's see:
1) Can only be used 7 months in advance
2) Can not be banked or transferred
3) Will not show on the member's website
4) Will take a little while to get your confirmation because it is a paper process. When you call MS, they take all of the information and fill out a form. They also hold the room for you. Then someone later processes the paperwork.

Since these points do not have a home resort associated with them, you cannot use them to book a DVC resort until 7 months from your check-out date. You can use them for other things, a cruise for example, but I don't recall what the booking windows are when using them for something other than a DVC resort stay.

What are the chances going to be that people can use all of their developer points with the seven months window??

Also, can you change a current ressie and rebook it if it si available using the developer points?? Then bank the points that you orginally used????

I was able to swap out developer points for an existing reservation I had without having to rebook and taking a chance of loosing your reservation. The points that were being used were placed back into my account. There are some negatives about using developer points:
-You do not recieve a confirmation number when you make your reservation, you recieve it by mail 2 weeks later.
-Your reservation does not show up on the member website.
-Any time you call MS about this reservation, you are put on hold for a while, until they find info on your trip. It is kept seperate from your reservations made with points.

Developer points are a great deal, so I guess a little hassle is worth it in the long run. Good Luck.

If there is a waiting list for the days you have, you would go to the end of the line and your reservation would be cancelled. If there was no waitlist, you would ultimately cancel and rebook using the developer points.

We booked SSR in early Aug for 10/10 to 10/24 and got all the nights after a couple of calls and one waitlisted with borrowed points from next year, as you cannot waitlist on developer points. I have also just booked AKV for 05/20 to 05/31 :)
