I've read that check-in for concierge guests is done "curb-side" so to speak at AKL. How does this work? Do you inform the valet and then he calls up and you wait for someone to come down or does whoever's at the desk take you up? Anyone know?

here's how it's worked for us...
when you drive into the Resort - you stop at the gate and give your name...he gives you a slip of paper to put on your dashboard (or if you are in a town car - gives it to you) for CL level, it's goldenrod (yellow)...regular is white.

when you pull up...the valets will know you're concierge when they see that slip of paper or you hand it to them (or you just flat out tell them heheheh) they will load up your stuff...take you inside to the concierge desk in the lobby, get your welcome packet and, in most cases, take you too your room. (yes, the valet does all this) after that, you have to go up to the concierge lounge solo to finish your check in.

if your room is not ready, they will put your luggage in "storage" and take you up to the concierge lounge directly where you will finish the check in process with little to zero wait. (where you put a credit card down for spending priviledges or what not) (yes - the valet still)

did I explain that well enough? any questions? (we've stayed AKL concierge 4 times now...hehehe...I hope you are taking advantage of either the sunrise or sunset safari!)

Thanks for the quick response. That sounds really good and I like having the same person do it all. One big tip instead of a bunch of smaller ones. We have actually reserved the Royal Asante Suite for next year. I wonder if they'd let you check in early to that room if it's not occupied? We will do the sunrise safari but not the evening one.....3 teenagers and a five year old. And yes, your explaination was VERY good. Any other tips for when we are there?

If the room is ready, they will definately let you check in. If not..they will give you a card with a number on it to call back and check if your room is ready for later in the day.

Enjoy the AKL, the castmembers are fantastic, the restaurants (Jiko and Boma) are wonderful. Don't forget to check out the lobby, it is like a small museum. Night goggles on the savannah at night..just look for the castmember with them.

that is awesome! I've seen pictures of that suite and it just looks amazing! the balcony looks awesome too!

And yes, if the room is ready, they'll let you in whenever you get there.

FYI - the suites (and all concierge savannah view rooms) are on the 5th floor...the concierge lounge is on the 6th floor. It's NOT a far walk at all from where you will be.
