We are leaving in a few days and I'm starting to work on the small details of our trip....
We will be driving our own car to AKL.

I want to self park our car. Is this possible?

If we self park, how do we get our luggage to the front door? Do we drive up and unload then go park or do we park and drag our luggage to the front door?

Are there carts for us to put our luggage on? Or can onl;y the bellman use them?

Do we have to use a bellman? How much should we trip him?

Do we take our luggage into the lobby or do we leave it outside?

What else should I know about checking in here??? I hate the 'out of place' feeling of going into a new hotel.

Thanks!

Yes you can self park. You can drive up and unload and then park your car. I think anyone can get a cart as long as one is available, if I remember correctly you have to sign them out. Leave your luggage outside if you use a bellman. I don't remember how much on tipping. Enjoy your trip to AKL. This is our favorite resort. We have stayed there twice. :goodvibes

Hi, Shari,

You will love the AKL! It is a fabulous spot!

I can help you with your parking questions - we had a rental car our entire stay there.

Self parking is absolutely no problem - just follow the signs. (And it is not off by itself in the boonies, although the valet parking lot is the closest to the Lodge.)

When we checked in, we first parked our car in the 30 minute parking, which is located in the same small lot as the handicapped parking to the left of the main entrance of AKL - any of the staff underneath the entrance portico can point you in the right direction. We left our luggage in the car, and went and checked in first. Once we got our room (and knew that we couldn't get in right away since it wasn't ready), we went back outside and retrieved our luggage. We only had three suitcases (and all were on wheels), so we just wheeled them into the Lodge ourselves. If you do need assistance, you will have to use a bellman - carts are not available for general use. I bet if you told one of the bellman as you were coming back out of the Lodge that you needed assistance with your luggage in the short term parking area, he would follow and help you.

You should generally tip $1-2 per bag.

If your room isn't ready when you check-in, they will hold your luggage for you at the bell station, and give you a claim check to retrieve it when you come back later that day.

Check-in is a breeze - the staff was very friendly and efficient. I hope you have an amazing time!

I don't think they allow the guests to use luggage carts. I would drop the luggage off at the front door and then self-park if you want. You have the option of taking your luggage inside with you to the front desk and then taking it to the room yourself. When I was at WL with friends in March, we did it that way (3 adults). I would use a bellman if you have alot, tipping is usually $1 to $2 per bag.
