?? about cash room rules

When getting a cash room with member discount, the member must stay in the room, correct? We are combining cash and points for 2 rooms and one of them is for our friends, so we can use a discount for our room but have to pay the full rate for their cash nights, correct? What about AP rates? If one is available can we get use our AP for their room? (I thought that I read somewhere that an AP holder can get as many as 3 AP rate rooms at 1 time.) We are giving them this trip as a thank you gift for all of their work at church.
