? about car rental bidding on Priceline...

I'm WAY ahead of game here for our trip next August, but I'm working on my budget and as of right now, car rental rates for 10 days are INSANE! I've never done anything with Priceline, but I just did practice run on a bid through the step where it give your pricing breakdown based on the bid you made. My question is, if my bid is NOT accepted the first time, how many times am I allowed to bid? Can I just do it with an increase of a few dollars until I get a big accepted? Obviously I won't go this route until a a few weeks out from my trip, but I'm trying to get a plan in my head.

Before you can bid again you must either:
1. Wait a few days,
2. Change at least one parameter such as rental period dates or being willing to accept a different pickup/dropoff location.

Be careful when trying this. Sometimes parameters you did not want to change get changed by mistake.

I have a question about bidding on a car rental too....
I believe that if they accept your bid you "prepay" for it? Then when you pick up the car at the location do they swipe your credit card again for the same amount? (if so then to me that would be "double dipping"). If not then what happens when you pick up the car?

You prepay Priceline for the car rental charges. At the rental counter you may have to swipe your credit card for extras like insurance, extra driver, etc. and also some companies require a pre-authorization towards possible unforeseen charges like uncovered collision losses or an unfilled gas tank.
