I'm wondering if this can be done? In Dec, we have 8 nights booked at BLT using BLT points. At seven months, I would like to split the reservation to spend the first 1/2 at BLT and 1/2 at BWV or BCV. I'm concerned when I call, getting on a wait list for some of the days. I don't want to chance having to move three or four times, so can I use SSR points to book a room (or waitlist) while still holding on to the days at BLT? Once all the days are available I'd cancel those days at BLT.

You can book more than 1 room as long as the first person listed on the reservation is different. If you are the first person on the BLT reservation you could make your DH the first person on the other reservation. I would probably not bothering adding everyone else until you had the reservation you really wanted.

Ugh. You already know it's not right.

The truth is, you have to buy where you want to stay.

That's an overall truth, to buy where you want to stay (or at least where you wouldn't mind staying if you didn't get something else), but for each specific trip, since they DO allow us to stay at the various DVC resorts, there's nothing wrong with her wanting to stay elsewhere. There's nothing "not right" about it.

The real question is if they let you drop days without rebooking the whole thing. That's where I would start with my question (on the boards, not with MS who may or may not know the exact answer to that). If you can just drop days it makes it simple, b/c you could just drop the days from the whole thing while booking elsewhere, and wouldn't have two rooms for any one day (let alone the points held up) during the process before you cancel.

With the new booking system MS has expressed that they can change a reservation much more easily. When you call to change part of the reservation from BLT to another resort start out with telling the CM that you want to change xxx days from your current BLT reservation to BCV (or wherever). They will look up and make the change if it's available.

If the days are not available and since you can no longer waitlist day by day your fear of having to move 3-4 times won't happen b/c MS will have you waitlist for the full time you are looking for. If all days become available then they will switch you over.

As you talked about you could also book a second room with your additional points and attempt to pick up days by calling but they still won't let you waitlist day by day.

So say I'm looking to switch sun to thur....sun and wed is available, but not mon. and tues....MS would just wait list the whole time period and not just mon. and tues?

We have done split stays several times, but never had the extra points to hold two rooms like this. Usually I would check the dates and if I couldn't get the whole segment, I'd get the days at the end of the trips and add days as I could working backwards. Hope that made sense.

Yes, with your SSR points you could book the sun and thursday and waitlist for the other two days.

Or yes, you could complicate it and choose to risk the moves if a few things fell into line but not something I'd risk if I didn't feel 100% comfortable with ending up having to move. With only your original reservation if you told MS to book the sun and wed yes, they would and then would do a waitlist for monday and tuesday. But unless something has changed your options for that would be dropping the entire original sun-thursday b/c you can't drop a day from the middle of a reservation - only consecutive days on the front or end - then they could try and rebook the monday and tuesday at the original if the room was still available. There's still risk trying that.

You've mentioned another option - if the last couple of days are available at the other resort you could book those and then waitlist for the day prior. If that fills then you could waitlist for the day prior to that. I've gotten a studio similarly during F&W doing that although it was an additional room I wanted. They will waitlist single days - just not consecutive single days.

Hopefully the days will all be available on your first call. :flower3:

Kat4disney, Bumbershoot, and Rlovew, thanks for the info. Our main goal to to be able to go disney and not need to use any transporation. We plan to skip AK this trip. It's really a trip to take in the Christmas decorations. If it didn't work out, staying at BLT the whole trip is fine, but this plan would be better.
