So I have been on the Fantasy years ago but we didn't stay in a cabin with a Murphy bed. So I was wondering if anyone who has if they could tell me if you are an adult which bed is more comfortable the murphy bed or the lower couch bed?

Thanks

They are both surprisingly comfortable. I would have thought that the lower couch bed would not be, but I was wrong about that. The Murphy Bed is just like any other bed / mattress, so as comfortable as it could be. Are you in a Verandah Room? The Murphy Bed will partially block the sliding door to the verandah, if that helps you in planning at all.

The murphy bed is a twin mattress on a hard surface. While it is comfortable, I don't know if I'd put grandma there. The teens or young adults, of course. The queen bed is definitely the most comfortable bed in the room.

I don't know anything about the sofa bed, as it's the back that folds down. I would expect it to be more comfortable than the murphy, since it folds down on to a soft surface, but we've never used that bed.

I would think the bunk and the murphy would be much the same. They are the same mattresses and, again, the bunk is on a hard surface.

I was thinking of going with my friend so I would have the bed and she would have the couch(and has in the past with no issues) but I was thinking if a Murphy bed room was available and that bed is more comfortable or a better option then I would book one of those rooms, so that is why I'm asking for peoples experiences.
thanks

I slept in the ceiling bed one night (I guess that's the Murphy bed?) I'm 5'6" and average weight - it was okay but I don't know that I would have liked a whole week of it. My son (almost 4.5 at the time) thought it was the best thing ever. We didn't use the sofa bed at all.

Both the Murphy bed and the sofa bed (and the pull down bunk) all have a regular twin size mattress on them. I would think they are all equally "comfortable".

My only question was whether the sofa bed might be softer, as it folds down to cushions, while the others don't have anything except the hard surface on which the mattress lays to act as a box spring.

The mattress of the sofa bed rests on a hard surface which is the back of the sofa.

My 5'7" adult sister has slept on both the sofa bed and the murphy bed.

She prefers the murphy bed except for the one time this past cruise she whacked her ankle on the corner of the murphy bed frame ;-)

Some of her comments:

- the sofa bed matress was not as comfortable -- but this could just be a difference in eg an older or newer mattress so is hard to tell if this is a real issue or not

- the "frame" of the sofa bed is the sofa, so it has the high arms on both the head and foot which are probably mostly fine for shorter people, but for taller people will be a problem; plus, you can end up running into them when moving around

- the "frame" of the murphy bed is open on 3 sides so lots of room for moving around and taller people

- the murphy bed has a sizable gap between the top of the mattress and the wall at the head of the bed -- things will fall down it if you are not careful; stuffing pillows into it can solve the problem; ask your stateroom host for extra pillows for this purpose

- the murphy bed frame is solid "wood" [probably not actual wood, but it is finished to look like wood, so we'll call it wood] that extends out a couple inches beyond the mattress, like a platform. BE AWARE of this because it will try to attack you as you innocently walk past ;-) Actually, as noted above, it can be easy to whack into if you are not paying attention or cut it a little too close, so be careful when walking near it when it is down.

- the side of the sofa bed has a gap between where the mattress ends and where the end of the sofa is; my sister found when sitting on the made bed, this gap hit her knees at a bad point that was VERY uncomfortable for sitting, and because the mattress doesnt go right to the edge you couldn't really adjust either to make it comfortable

- the murphy bed is low to the flow, so does not have the uncomfortable sitting issue even with its platform, as you can easily adjust sitting position, at least for an older child or adult.

On our next cruise my sister may be having to use the sofa bed, so we are actively trying to come up with solutions to the issues identified above. Any suggestions are welcome.

Has anyone tried putting an extra (spare) mattress on the murphy? So you'd have the normal murphy bed, but then add, say the bunk mattress underneath? The hosts take the mattresses off to make them, so I don't think they're heavy, but I wondered if two mattresses piled on top of each other would be comfortable and if they'd stay together.
