? about AP vs MYW tickets

Hi there, I'm a newbie so sorry if this is not where it belongs, but here goes, My family is going to WDW for 13 days in Sept. I will be purchasing 10 day MYWPHWPM tickets for everyone. I also usually go in January with a girlfriend of mine for another 4-5 days and we usually purchase MYWPH tickets. Would I benefit in buying myself a premium AP and then purchasing my DH and DKs the above mentioned tickets? Also, when does the year begin for APs, the date from purchase or the date from first use? Thanks for all your help!
