??? about Alabama-golf/retirement

What can anyone tell me about Alabama as a place to retire and play lots of golf? And how's the cost of living? I really want DH to start thinking of retiring-his father died of a heart attack at 51yo and guess how old DH is now. However, when I mention retiring, I don't get anywhere. Well, he LOVES golf-I'd hate to hear the results is he ever had to choose between me and golf. And once he went on a golfing trip to some Robert Trent Jones Trail in Alabama. So...maybe I can woo him to retire with the promise of lots of golf. So how is it as a place to retire and play golf?

Hi....while I can't give you much help on the golfing front (I've never played) we live in North Alabama and like it very much. You can get more information from websites about the trail and maybe specifically cities like Huntsville, Madison, Decatur. There are a few others from AL on the boards...maybe they'll pipe up on this one!

In Alabama, there is the Robert Trent Jones golf trail. We played Silver Lakes and it was VERY nice, plus the service was just spectacular! That's all I know!Edited to add: Just letting you know that I can't read! But I liked golfing there. We played for 5 days straight!

If I remember correctly there is one course just out of Birmingham, and now there is one just north of Montgomery in Prattville, just on the interstate. Prattville is a nice town too, if you are thinking of small upwardly mobile cities. Good luck on your decision.

Alabama is beautiful. If you like the water, move closer to Mobile. Birmingham is a smallish city (I love their zoo), I've never been to Montgomery. I live near Ft. Payne, Alabama (practically grew up there, heck, I was born there ). I love Georgia more though.
