I looking to buy a camera and they have the best price. I have never hjeard of this company and thought I would ask you guys what you thought of them? Thanks G

I have not used them, but they have been around for a long time. I remember seeing ads for them in the back of stereo/video/photography magazines as far back as the 80's I believe.

I did, probably 2 years ago to buy a camera. They had the best price. Quick shipping, fine to deal with.

DH is a photographer, He says to use B&H They are in Manhattan. He says you will pay a little more, but they are better to deal with.

I've had several Amazon purchases ultimately go through Abe's of Maine. This included a TV and a DSLR camera. No issues. Not sure why someone would suggest to pay more for the same product. If anything B&H are less easy to deal with as they are closed Friday afternoon and all day Saturday. That includes web activities as well.

We have used them twice: once for a laptop & just last week for a camera. The annoying thing is after you place your order, they'll call you to ask if you "forgot" to order anything.... For the camera they wanted to know if I wanted to add an extended life battery or a case. I told them no & they shipped it right out. It wasn't a big deal for the laptop since we didn't need it for awhile. For the camera, it added a day to the processing: I ordered it very late Tuesday and used overnight shipping. They called me Wed afternoon, but left a message. I called them back Wed afternoon and left a message. I called again Thursday morning - after awhile on hold I finally talked to them. They shipped it out & I received it Friday (which worked ok).... I was very stressed about it though.
The other thing is make sure you search for codes. There's always a few out there. Good luck!

We bought one of our cameras from them. Great price and fast shipping. The only draw back is the never-ending emails they will send out after. But you can opt out of them.

A friend of mine tried using them once. He ended up being so frustrated that he canceled the order and went with B&H.

When I was researching a camera and best deals out there, he was great in pointing me to sites. He recommended B&H and Adorama. I didn't go with Adorama (waited too long to order), but they had the best deal on a "kit" price for what I ended up getting.

I always check with resellerratings if it's a company I've never heard of:

resellerratings.com/search/Abes%20of%20Main

They seem OK, but others seem better:

resellerratings.com/store/Adorama

resellerratings.com/search/cameta

I purchased a Nikon Coolpix P90 from them about 2 years ago and a Nikon S4000 from them this past Christmas (for a gift). In both cases, I had good experiences and the product was shipped and to my house within 3 days of ordering.

I would not hesitate to buy from them again and I would def recommend then!!

Abes of Maine is legitimate and fine. What they will do is basically treat your web order the same way they would if you walked into a real store - at checkout you get asked if you need this or that or want to add this or that - Abes will call you on the phone after you order to ask you those same questions you'd get at the checkout counter. If you say no thanks they won't pressure you and will ship the order. My current camera and two lenses came from them. No problems. Just be polite when they call and respectfully decline (unless there really is something you want to add) and you're done.

Bought a camcorder about 5 years ago from them, never had a problem.

I have used them for years and never had a problem. They will always try to add on additional items. That's their job. But it will also give you some ideas of other items to go along with your new camera.

They have a showroom in Edison, NJ but it's not much.

Thanks, ordered from them, Waiting for the phone call. LOL :cool1:
