ABD Greece in August?

Anyone else scheduled for this trip? We are quite concerned if it will happen -- and if it does how will all the economic issues be handled? And food, etc....
Has anyone taken the trip this summer, or planning to?

I contacted ABD about the September trip because I wanted to know the number of people on the trip. I also asked about the ongoing financial issues Greece is facing and if there were any plans to cancel. The cast member said they are monitoring and if needed would change the itinerary but currently no plans to cancel. That was last week before the no vote today. I would call ABD

Thanks. I plan to call by next week and hope I can get some honest answers. Really looking forward to the trip but also watching the news and seeing some store shelves empty and not sure we want to carry a lot of cash with us for extras, so a bit anxious. Will wait and see......

Those are great questions! I remember when there was an ABD adventure going on in Egypt during their Government's meltdown. Adventure was stopped and everyone evacuated. I am curious to see if those adventures will still happen. Please post your findings!

I will. Really trying to stay hopeful that it will happen--my kids are very excited. Stay tuned......

Hopefully you bought trip insurance!

As far as money, I know they are reporting that ATMs will be worthless - so nowhere to get cash. And I'm not sure if they will have the capability to process credit cards in all but big international things...

I just can't imagine the workers at say airports and docks will really continue to work for government issued IOU's......I am always nervous in some countries in Europe that I may get caught up in a wild cat strike at the transportation systems.....I suggest it may be prudent at this time to look at alternative travel offerings that you may need in case of a total Greek meltdown...always good to have a "plan B"....Germany has come out this morning and stated that they "will take a hard line" on the issue of compensation.

It really depends on the trip insurance whether something of this nature will be covered or not.

@Februarylady, if you do have insurance, I'd be reading the policy to see what is and isn't covered in the case of your operator cancelling a trip, or in the case you feel you need to cancel due to the issues.

I hope it all works out for you! The Greece trip is an amazing trip, and I hope you get to go. I went 2 years ago when the protests were going on in Athens, and it had me worried, but fortunately, none occurred while we were there. But the Guides told us that the protests were well contained within Syntagma Square, and that if anything happened, we'd be able to just avoid that area.

Something like the economy tanking has a whole different impact. I'm keeping my fingers & toes crossed for you!

Thanks everyone. We do have insurance. Just sort of waiting right now. Will call Disney next week and get an update.

Here in Greece, everything is well. The reports of food shortages are for now, overblown. I recommend bringing euro, small bills mostly. If things change, I'll post, but for now, I wouldn't worry about it. The people are still their friendly selves!
