ABD China question

We are thinking of taking the August 3rd adventure to China but are concerned about the weather. Can anyone that has gone on this trip tell us what the weather was like that time of year? Also, any other thoughts about the trip? Thanks so much!!!

Welcome to the DISBoards, Gina P, and to the ABD Forum! The China trip is definitely on my bucket list. I must admit, the weather is one of my concerns, too! We have several people on this Forum who have taken the China trip, so hopefully one of them will be by to answer your questions soon!

We went in July and it was brutally hot. But it was worth it!!!! We have also been on the South Africa and Southeast Asia trips and this was by far my and my husband's favorite. My kids are partial to South Africa. As far as the heat, we brought Under Armour and Nike performance tees and had the cooling towels you can put around your neck. If it is the same weather as when we were there you will be drenched with sweat at all times. The Disney guides definitely keep you hydrated though and you are off and on the air-conditioned bus. If you can stand the heat in any form you must go on this trip. It is truly amazing.

On a similar topic... is there any stop or hotel that you can do some laundry?

We did do laundry at the hotels as much as we could on this trip. All of the hotels are extremely high end so it was very costly but worth it so we did not have to pack as much.

Thanks Deckes! May I ask you another question? What were the flights from city to city like? Do you remember if the planes were propeller planes or jets? Any other thoughts on this trip would be very much appreciated!

Looked back through my kids' scrapbooks to try and recall.. We did Southeast Asia last and the trips are starting to blur together. I don't remember any small planes. In fact one of my son's tickets says Row 49. Looking at their tickets Disney used China Southern and I believe Cathay Pacific.

Definitely look at all of the China trip reports on DisBoards. They are incredibly detailed and will give you a very thorough idea of the trip. I followed all of the suggestions from them right down to the tour company we hired for our pre-day (The China Guide). These postings are invaluable and have gotten me through all 3 of our trips.

That was really nice of you to check the scrapbooks! I won't worry about small planes then. It is our first adventures by disney trip so it is all new to us. We typically travel on our own but thought we could definitely use some help in China. Thanks again!

We did the China trip in early July. it was very hot everywhere - and humid too in Chengdu and Hong Kong.
We did not send out laundry anywhere - no easy local alternative presented itself like in Hoi An. We did take a lot of clothes we left behind - great way to make space for souvenirs!
All the flights were jets - I would say at least as big as a Southwest plane. The population of China is so much bigger than we realize!
China was our first ABD too - the logic being that we wanted a group tour there no matter what. Now we are kind of addicted!

Thanks so much! Sounds like it was pretty hot and humid.... would you still recommend the trip August? I hadn't thought about laundry and leaving some clothes behind. Is there a limit on the amount of luggage you can bring? I guess it would be a good idea to pack light since we will be moving around a lot.

No luggage limit that I could tell - and an awesome thing about ABD is that they deal with moving the bags! One of my daughter's quotes about ABD is 'no touchy, no touchy!' - learned from one of our ABD guides!
I basically packed 3 suitcases (3 of us) each with 3-4 days worth of stuff. So 'ideally' we were not digging through every suitcase each time. Did not always work quite like that.....

Oh, yes! ABDs are HIGHLY addictive! You will find a lot of people who have been on multiple ABDs.

It's very hard traveling without them now! I am very spoiled!
