ABD 2010: Disers Go West - Let the Fun Begin

Did everyone that went to the Jimmy Kimmel taping get to see the show on TV? We all actually made it on national television for a couple of seconds as they panned the crowd at the beginning of the show. They got our front and back as we were on 2 different shots. Our 2.3 seconds of fame was over in a hurry. :lmao:

I can't believe no one has asked for my autograph yet. :rolleyes1

We are currently in San Luis Obispo at the Madonna Inn in the William Tell Room.

http://www.madonnainn.com/rooms/203.php.

I dont think I can describe how kitchsy / funny this is.

We have three stained glass windows depicting the legend of William Tell shooting the apple off his son's head.

Everything in the room is lacquered to within an inch of it's life in BRILLIANT CANDY APPLE RED.

Our bathroom is made of solid rock boulders as is our shower which has a waterfall in it.

Don't you just love that place! When I was growing up, we used to love to go to the restaurant there on our trips to visit my Mom's aunt in SLO. No other place like it!

This is exactly why I write trip reports during our trip. Old age is creeping in for me and trying to remember specific details of a trip can be difficult. :headache:

I had every intention of doing this and even brought along the netbook so I could do it, but the itinerary was so jam packed (going from 6:00 a.m. until midnight most nights) that there just wasn't time to do it.

I didn't take any notes at all, so my TR will be from memory. All the pictures help with what we did and when.
I was so tired at the end of the day that I Could not have written a TR as I went either.

As did I, Dodie. I had even bought a nice small journal to keep in my bag so I could write down things as the day progressed.
Well, said journal came home just as it went... Blank !!!
Going full tilt for 19 hours a day and getting by on 5 hours sleep every day was draining, but I wouldn't trade one single minute for anything. I guess I'll have to work backwards using the pics to help jog my memory about each day's events :)

I think the next time we do a trip like this I am going to bring along a little personal recorder so I can record things as we go along. :) :thumbsup2

EDITED TO ADD - NEVER MIND. I FINALLY FIGURED THIS OUT!

It's obviously been awhile since I've done one of these. I don't understand the whole Pre-Trip Report/Trip Report thing. Why can I not put my trip report (for a trip that's already over obviously) on the Trip Report board? There's no link to start a new thread. Do I have to start it on the Pre-Trip Report Board and then have it moved, even though the trip is already over? So complicated.

Help!

We're getting ready to leave our SF hotel for the airport as it's time to go home.

And it is time. I miss the dogs. I miss Mom. I miss our house.

It's been a glorious 12 days and we needed it.

Our trip was capped off by a trip to the Disney Museum with Don (SFBAYDON), Michael (Merry Mouseketeer) and Carol (Disney Enabler).

Truly an amazing experience.

If you consider yourself a Disney fan... you owe it to yourself to visit. it's a different perspective.

Off to breakfast, return the car and then the airport.

See y'all soon.

Have a great flight guys.

The museum sounds awesome, I can't wait to hear more. Frank & Cathy raved about it.

Hope your mom is well, I'm sure it will be nice to see her.

TTFN,

Chris

Safe trip home Kevin and John. I can't wait to hear your view on the Disney Family Museum. Don raved about it when we spoke last week.

Have a safe trip boys, can't wait to hear all about it.

:thumbsup2 I've heard nothing but great things about The Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco. If we book PCC 2.0, we probably won't head back to California until 2012 for the opening of Cars Land at DCA. We may have to make a two week trip out of it and make the loop to start north in San Francisco and make our way down to Anaheim. I don't think Bill would mind visiting the PCH again. ;)

I have a question ...

Why did they build The Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco?????

:goodvibes Jennifer

I found this on a web site:

This month, workers are busy converting three historic buildings in San Francisco's Presidio, a National Park, for the future Walt Disney Family Museum.
"People are very surprised," says Carolyn Kiernat, principal at Page & Turnbull, the San Francisco firm overseeing the project. "Their first question tends to be 'Why in the Presidio?'" Two years ago, Walt Disney's daughter, Diane Miller, and her husband, Ron, asked Jay Turnbull to design a museum near their home in Northern California about her father's life and work.
The family found the site ideal, Kiernat says. "Walt Disney was a huge fan of the military and Gen. Pershing [who commanded the Presidio] in particular." In addition, she says, the museum building "recalls the Main Street USA in Disney World."
Construction began in May on the 1897 barracks, which, along with a glass-and-steel addition, will serve as the exhibit hall. A 1904 gym will become offices and archives, and a 1940s munitions shed will house the complex's mechanical systems.
All three buildings, and many others that make up the National Historic Landmark, have been abandoned since 1994. Last year the museum signed a 40-year lease for the federal property.
"We're working very closely with the [nonprofit] Presidio Trust to make sure we don't damage or remove any historic fabric," says Lada Kocherovsky of Page & Turnbull.
Enclosed by a courtyard, the new addition will have views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay.
"We were trying to take some cues from the historic building as far as height, but really our approach was one of subtle contrast," Kiernat says.

Sitting in Phoenix airport waiting for last leg of the trip.

Looking forward to getting home.

It is nice to be home. Although I didn't want our trip to end, once I got home I was glad to sleep in my own bed and see my Brody Baby.

OK. I've started my trip report. The link is in my signature. I reserve the right to revise, edit, and add in others' good photos once they start sharing them. :)

Will be sure to follow along Dodie. Thanks!

and how did Brody manage while you were gone??

Brody Baby does just fine when I am gone. He spends his vacation at his hunting trainer's house with lots of other dogs playing and rolling around in the dirt. Brody Baby LOVES to play with other dogs and is usually the one to wear them all out. Needless to say, he is still recovering from his adventure. :goodvibes
