ABC Sitcom shooting on 1/17-Magic!!!

FYI....

I have just been informed by DU that a "nationally televised ABC sitcom" will be shooting on the 1/17/04 Magic sailing

We are on this sailing and think it will be very exciting. I am sure others will not be so happy about the disruption/inconvenience but we think it will be fun. We don't know what show it is or who will be on board but my kids will be very excited if it is someone they watch.

If I hear anything else, I will keep you posted.

If I had to guess I would say the show is "According to Jim." One of ABC's best rated shows, and the TV family has 3 young children..seems like the right fit.

My family is on the 1/17 Magic as well. I do not know why, but this always seems to happen to me. It can be a double edged sword, as on my first cruise in the early 80s they filmed scenes from a show. Fun sometimes, but they tend to block off sections of the boat for filming. Want to use the exersize room? "sorry closed for filming"

On the other hand, they were filming the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleading calander at my resort in during my Honeymoon. That was cool.

WIcruizer, I think you're right. I remember an earlier thread talking about "According to Jim" being on one of the DCL cruises, but I think no one was sure, at the time, as to when ABC was going to be aboard.

If you've ever watched that show, there always seems to be a picture somewhere with the girls posing with Mickey or Minnie. And when one of the girls had a sleepover party, the theme was princesses -- Disney Princesses that is. Seems like a good fit to me!

My family and I, plus my parents are on the cruise and also received the letter. My kids, 9 & 13, are excited about it, but I am concerned about the potential hassles and area closures. I'm going to be upset if, after spending the $$$ for two cat 5 cabins, I try to go somewhere or do something on board and the "Area is closed for filming". Wish they could have told us earlier, rather than within the 60 day window.

We are thinking about this as just an added bonus to our adventure We don't complain about things too much and try to look at the bright side. This will be one of those times when life takes you by surprise and you make the best of it. This is our family vacation of a lifetime and there is no way we are going to let something exciting like this turn it into a downer.

DEGAF and Donk2001 -- so glad you will be on this cruise with us. I am putting together a list of everyone from the DIS boards. We have a thread going on the Cruise Meets board. Email me if you are interested in joining us for a Radisson Meet or a DIS meet on the ship. Some of the kids have already started to email each other. It will be nice for them to meet on board!!!

I was just reading about this in my Soaps magazine. It seems that Ingo Rademacher (Jax on General Hospital) is going to be in this episode. It will be airing during February Sweeps--and I think it said that it would air over 3 episodes?!

Sounds like fun. We love According to Jim.

I am not trying to be negative but we were on a cruise in Sept. and they were filming a commercial on it. Yes there were areas roped off. Yes there was lots of equipment around deck and yes it was kind of annoying. But we could have lived with that stuff. The film crew people were VERY rude and that was not tolerated. We actually talked to a ships officer about it . One woman was pushing her way while talking on a radio and knocked over a small child and she didn't even check to see if he was hurt.

Just make sure that the filming doesn't ruin your fun.

Do you think there is any chance they might use some of the passengers for extras in the tv show?

That would be way cool, even if you could just be part of a crowd scene. Maybe they will tape at the Sailaway party etc.

I work 2nd shift and have never seen the show. Is it a daily or weekly show, & what time does it air?

I'm a little disappointed, but I think (and hope!) that Disney will schedule the filming so as to cause the least amount of disruption as possible. It's a big ship and there is always a lot to do, so there should always be other options if your particular activity or location is temporarily shut down due to filming. I could be wrong, but I would seriously doubt that they will close off a pool, spa, workout room, or any other popular spot for an extended period of time.

Above all, don't let any inconvenience ruin your trip!

Maybe they will do most of the filming during the CC day or times when you all are in ports. That way it would not hinder as many people. I am sure it will be lots of fun.

We went on one that had a teen singing sensation, as well as his older brother(a well-known singer also) and their family. Disney had everyone sign a waiver about being in scenes, giving permission, etc. We never did see the promos on tv but they did film alot on CC. It never got in the way of our fun, in fact it added to it. I would say having Jim on the ship would be a blast!
