ABC poll shows Bush Losing Ground

For the first time in ABC News/Washington Post polls, more than half of Americans, 52 percent, say the Iraq war was not worth fighting. Seven in 10 call U.S. casualties there "unacceptable," a new high. And there's been a steady slide in belief that the war has enhanced long-term U.S. security; 51 percent now say so, down 11 points this year.

Bush, moreover, has weakened in his once-strongest area. Approval of his handling of the U.S. campaign against terrorism has fallen to 50 percent, its lowest yet — down eight points in the last month and 29 points below its immediate postwar peak. In a hazardous turn of fortune for Bush, Democrat John Kerry now runs evenly with him in trust to handle terrorism; Bush had led by 13 points on this issue a month ago, and by 21 points the month before.

Interesting reading !!!!!

Interesting to be sure, but not particularly indicative of what will happen in November. IMO, this election is all about George W. Bush. If things start to turn for the better in Iraq, with the economy already rebounding, he'll be re-elected. If not, he won't be.

It is, however, indicative of the problems we have faced in Iraq. I think the Bush administration did a poor job of managing expectations. Then again, their own expectations were unreasonable. Anyway, I think the fact that the administration expected the "rosy" scenario really hurts the public perception of Iraq now.

It's not the first time he's down in any polls. He'll bounce back just like he has before. And once again...interesting that much of the military supports what he's done.

*YAWN* Political polls are like belly buttons -- everyone's got one and it's very rare to find one that's worth the time spent looking at it.

We'll be subjected to hundreds of polls between today and Nov. 2nd. The bottom line is the only poll that matters and is worth reading are the election results on Nov. 3rd.

Hmmm...how did I miss those threads?

Bash Bush? VH posted about the results of a poll. How is that bashing Bush?

LOL Steve about the belly button remark! :teeth:

Just for the record, a troll is someone that posts to rile people up, then runs away. Since he's been here for a while and responds when people post to him, he doesn't qualify. You may not like what he has to say, but at least he's here to back it up.

Also, just wanted to repost something:

I think this is a very astute "nutshell" of the election in November. Should things improve in Iraq, I think that the fickle public will start to go back towards Dubya. Should things continue to deteriorate, I think he loses...and possibly even badly. I agree, this election IS about Dubya more-so than his opponent. The majority of those that are voting for Kerry will likely be voting against Dubya, if you catch what I mean by that. Yes, Kerry has his ardent supporters...but I think he'll benefit most from the votes of those that just want Dubya gone, regardless of his replacement.

I'd call that person RIGHT.

Can we just save everyone time and just say...

Democrat/Liberal answer: Amen!! Bush is going down!!

Republican/Conservative answer: Polls mean nothing until November.

Just check one box and move on, thanks. :)

BTW, I do agree that VH's posts that I've seen don't constitute trolling. Political opinions, sure... but nothing wrong with that.

Funny, that's exactly why I voted for Clinton when Bush, Sr. was up for re-election. However, I WON'T be doing that this time around. ;)

I would call that person me!! Really I don't have much at all to even say about Kerry, but Clinton, ugh, don't get me started!!

About the poll, put me in the conservative camp, I will check that box and add the following: At least those people that answer the liberally slanted poll don't typically vote! Even if they do, how many people really even answered the thing, like four and two of them said, "Yeah sure no Bush right, I heard he is bad, but don't ask me why because I don't know, that is just what I have heard!"

Oh and VH I don't think you are a troll, I am in your fan club and I like that you aint a scaered of nothing. I do think you are wrong, though, but I hold out hope that you will come around!

Not to start it up, perish the thought, but I agreed with your stand against the TF, and am glad he/she appears to have let it drop! No one should be so actively persecuted once they have made their desires so vocal, though it was entertaining to watch the fight, so you did vanquish the evil for that moment.

I got in the fan club under the radar and plan a coup wherein I will teach you the benefits of laying waste to the liberal point of view... Oh jeez, why can't I keep my big mouth shut?? I uh , I mean well ...I just really like you man. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain...

and now back to you friendly topic, whatever it was!
