Abandoned Attractions

They were moved to DAK after it opened.

Where? They certainly can't be the ones on safaris.. those ones are not the vibrant coral color a PP mentioned. Is there another place in DAK that has flamingos? (I honestly haven't been there in ages!)

AFAIR, there is a little fenced area with the flamingos at AK.

Its so enjoyable watching them bury their heads in feathers and stand on one leg!

My favourite bird moment though was at sea world, two of those white crane type birds were sat on a fence watching people walk past and looking at each other - looked like two old ladies :lmao:

I miss that alien ride - I was too young to enjoy it enough and dont really remember it, think its Stitch now.

Wasn't there an alien show where Stitch is now located?

Was there a log flume ride over near Splash Mountain?

I miss leaving the park at night and having the choice of a Mickey t-shirt with a navy ring around the collar and sleeves or a Donald t-shirt with royal blue.

Wasn't there an alien show where Stitch is now located? Alien Encounter, sucked but not as much as Stitch, before that it was Mission to Mars, before that Mission to the Moon.

Was there a log flume ride over near Splash Mountain?Only Log Flume ever in MK in Florida was (is) Splash Mountain. DL has the Matterhorn, which isn't a log flume but ends with a little splash in water.

I miss leaving the park at night and having the choice of a Mickey t-shirt with a navy ring around the collar and sleeves or a Donald t-shirt with royal blue.

I miss going in May and practically having the place to ourselves.

After seeing the awesome 2000 Leagues Under the Sea pictures on this thread I googled it to get more info/pics and now I'm mad at this thread! I never got to ride it, and up until last night I had no idea what I was missing! Ignorance is bliss darnit.

In all seriousness, I do sort of feel like I missed out on going on a truly great ride though.

Maybe I missed it but has anybody mention Mr. Toad's Wild Ride in Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom? I have a great picture of my oldest not to happy coming out of that ride...LOL.

1- They were in the first couple of phases of construction on those buildings.

2- Yup. All work stopped following the tragic "911" attacks.

3- That's the Wonders of Life, that has been previously mentioned.

Disney won't talk about why they stopped operating the Wonders of Life attractions.

I was told that the Wonders of Life lost their sponsor and that what is why it shut down.

This may be on one of the pages but when my children were 4 & 5 YO(they are now 26&25) They had a pupeteer that operated Figment in Epcot. I loved that ride and I have the most adorable video of my son interacting with this gentlemen. We had the area nearly to ourselves and he spent 15 minutes with my children. My son was so trying to figure out if Figment was real. It was just so sweet.
My son moved to his own home this weekend so I guess I am very nostaglic right now.

No speculation - it isn't. It's far too small. Someone at one point managed to get close up pictures of it.

It is more like a Flash Gordon-esque spaceship, probably meant to be part of the theming of the Legendary Years.

P.S. The last place I knew the subs were located was the land to the northeast of the MK where the Persian Resort was originally planned for, but they are not there any more. I heard a rumor that they were buried on property over to the west of the MK, beyond the fireworks bunkers. There is a landfill area where it looks like they have at least partially buried some containers.

Persian Resort???? Was that supposed to be over near the monorail resorts????

Oh wow, I just read through this entire thread, so many memories! I loved seeing all the pics of 20,000 Leagues, I was lucky enough to ride on my first WDW trip ever and though I was only 5 I remember all of it. There's a pic of me seating on one of the rocks that are now (or were) where Ariel's Grotto is while waiting in line. I spent that whole first time at MK with my grandparents because my mom was sick and now that they've passed away it makes me very nostalgic.

It would have been a monorail resort, but not on the existing loop. It would have had a spur line according to early drawings, although the logistics of such are interesting (and probably a contributing reason why the area was never developed). They could have potentially used the maintenance spur more regularly for it.

Physically, it would have been north of the CR, near the northeast corner of MK, with a water view of Bay Lake.

Some might have already seen this....but this is really really cool, albeit...wrong and possibly illegal!

CHECK IT OUT! Its about Discovery Island!

Reading about the Discovery Island adventure was so eerie! Such a cool story, but it is weird how it seems Disney just got up and left it. I can't help but feeling a bit gutted when I look at the pictures. The sign that reads "river country closed" really gets to me. How there was still left over paper work and photographs. Also it surprises me that Disney still leaves a lot of lights on during the night. Very interesting. Does anyone know if river country used to have a filtering system for the water people were swimming in?

That was Dreamfinder! Man, I really miss the original Journey Into Imagination ride! :guilty:

My friend and I are urban explorers. While staying at Pop Century last year we actually ventured over to The Legendary Years. She has all of the pictures so I have none to post but it was pretty cool; just seeing the stuff they had there. For instance they had a huge toy rocket just sitting there. The numbers in front of the lobby were all built but not painted or textured. We tried to get into the lobby but I didn't have my "tools"
