aarrrggghh help us make a decision please

Hi Guys,

Im looking for your take on this as my head is in a whirl and I dont want to do something ill end up regretting !!

Following the collapse of CCE and losing our holiday money I have been approached by the BBC to go on tv and say what the effects have been on us as a family.
This afternoon i turned down the 6 o clock news as they wanted to do a piece which involved pictures of Cam in hospital - crossed a barrier for us !!

Then tonight my phone hasnt stopped - BBC breakfast want us on the sofa in London then when i explained we had ana ppointment with Cam at Birmingham I as transferred to the Birmingham office where they asked if we would go in tommorow for an interview for BBC news 24 !!

I dont know what to do Im desperate enough to go on the tele but the reason why we are being asked is clear we have the sob story they have been looking for !! I am just not sure If i want my sob story to be plastered all over the t.v !!
The kids are desperate for me to agree they think it will buy them celebrity status
what do you guys think ?? I know so many of you were affected too !

Thats a tough one. Deciding factor may be that the kids think it would be cool. Never know may even be some kind people out there who would want to help out too. But I can see all your reasons against too!

I think you should trust your instincts and avoid this.

It might be the right thing to do now but will you still feel the same when it is the talk of the playground?

Just out of interest - is there a fee involved?

2 minds really- this could end up really bad for your family locally i.e. in the playground as others have said...but it could also end well, as sometimes other companies will contribute as it's good PR for them for providing you with a replacment on what you have missed out on. Tough call - good luck with your decision.

Wow Louise, what a tough one I can see both sides of the story.

I can see why you don't want to do it, as you have never asked for sympathy from anyone, let alone the national news. But, it could sort your problems over spending money, as I'm pretty sure someone will stump it up for you all so that the holiday will be an even bigger success.

Thinking about it, if you end up with more than you bargained for, you could always give the excess money not needed for your trip to a children's charity Or for further investigation for Cameron if it's needed.

You don't need to go on there and go over board with your situation with Cameron, you can just be honest and say how the fall of the company has affected your trip after his recovery.

Good Luck with whatever you choose to do, we'll all not think any worse of you on the Dis, I guess we'll all be behind you on this one whichever you choose to do!!

Hi Louise, I know what you have been through over the weekend, and you know how badly I feel for you..

I have to agree with Libby as I know you have had problems with the playground clique in the past, and would hate for you to have further grief from them.

I hope whatever decision you make turns out the best for you hon, and like Rachel says good luck with whatever decision you come to..

You must do what you think is best for you and the family xx

Louise I have no advise as I really don't know what i would do in your position. Do they want just you or your whole family on the tv. I'm nit sure I would want my kids on the news and I think that would be the deciding factor for me, although the kids might think it would be cool, it could cause a lot of problems. If it was just me going on the news then i would probably go and try and stay on teh story about loosing money rather than Cams health.

ohh thats hard one, i dont think id like to be there sob sob story, do youthnk if it wasnt for cam they would want to interview you,? i hate it when they like to tick boxes like this, but on the other hand you could come out of this much better off, like people have said the pr for these companys is a good thing ....(insist on a makeover first...lol)....

would it bother you to be the talk of the playground???

Having been in a similar situation because of Ethan's prematurity I can totally sympathise. We ended up doing various television and newspaper interviews when Gordon Brown premmie daughter was born.

We only agreed to do it after we insisted that there would be no photos of Ethan and that we would not discuss his case in detail. I know that this is a bit different but if you do decide to do it you can always insist that Cameron is not discussed and that the story you tell if your "family experience" not your "childs experience".

If you do go ahead enjoy the time and have a bit of fun......... you sure deserve it

Hi No there is no fee involved but the reporters have made it quite clear that they would be surprised if we didnt get a company or individual help us out

They asked for the whole family and whilst my kids are upset that we are stopping them from getting celebrity status with their mates I think they are missing the bigger picture.

Im the talk of the playground what ever I do so I cant win there !
My biggest problem with it all really is that if they didnt know about cameron they wouldnt give two hoots about us losing all our money we are just teh same as the other 12 999 people then and thats the bit that sits uncomfortable with us.

Just to play devils advocate on your last point - you are absoltely right and being very fair but they are going to get someone to talk and your family are probably more deserving of help than many. It is always difficult to ask for help or accept it but sometimes a case like yours may make some of these people who cause these problems think twice before taking all the cream.

I totally agree.
If you say no then the will ask someone else - and that person may not be as deserving as your family.
I would also be asking myself how I will feel this time next week when the opportunity has gone and it is all old news.

We have decided that its not for us there is just something that doesnt feel right and we hate the sympathy vote and always want to be just like everyone else so i guess just like everyone we lost out this time !!

Also over the weekend friends have been giving money to help us and every penny that has been given there has been given out of genuine love and for the right reasons. If we go on tv yes e probably will get most of our money but it wont mean as much as the money that has been given here.

The final thing that made us decide NO is this time last year we were petrified that we were going to lose Cameron and had to cancel a trip to florida because he wasnt well enough to go. The whole of last christmas was spent trying desperatly not to think what if . . .
Now we have a healthy boy yes we have some problems still and I dare say more trial will happen with his treatment but when we leave in 7 weeks time its not going to be about how much money we have in our back pocket its going to be about ALL six of us finally boarding a plane !!!

Wonderfully put Louise As I said on my previous post, none of us here would mind either way on your decisions as a family and I respect what you've decided

You'll have a wonderful time as a family in Florida, regardless of how many things you can buy etc. Just having the family together and getting some photo's with Mickey is just a blessing in itself for many people, there's no better feeling I'd say
