Just tried to book the the hotel through Top Cash Back on the Disney Paris website, everything was going fine til payment. It added the £9 Credit Charge surcharge, which I was a bit miffed about as we're paying on a debit card, but ho hum. Then it wouldn't authorise the payment :confused3

The details were definitely correct & there is more than enough money in the bank to cover it.

Any ideas?

We've been locked out now, as we've exceeded the maximum amount of tries

We had a problem last year when we bought a pram online from Mothercare & there processing centre is in Belguim or somewhere. The order went through fine on screen & then the bank cancelled it, because we weren't in Belguim. Like no-one else with a Halifax bank account has ever bought anything online from Mothercare before:sad2: Anyway, could it be something similar?

Am I best just losing the cash back money & just booking over the phone?

:sad1:
I was looking forward to booking the big bit tonight
:sad1:

Sounds like a security thing to me, it's been driving me mad for the last few months, I'm sure it must be easier for fraudsters to buy online than bank customers!
First Itried to use mydebit card to buy a dress online to collect in store, like you I knew the details were right enough money etc but no joy. The next morning I had a call from my bank saying my card had been compromised and that they were sending me a new one - that took a week.
Even worse I had a call from my credit card company to query an unusual payment I straight away said I was expecting a large payment to go out to DLP, she checked the amount etc and then said right we'll lift the temp block we put on your card. I didn't think anything of it until some weeks later when DLP called saying my payment had been refused/cancelled by my bank, I was absolutely livid as there seemed no point phoning to check and then refusing it anyway!
I expect that you will get a call from your bank in the morning if not I would call them. The other quick check that you could do is to check your Internet settings to make sure cookies aren't being blocked.
Good luck!

I had the same problem with my debit card (with Natwest) - because it was such a large amount over the Internet, and I don't usually use my debit card online, my bank put a security block on it. Had to phone up the bank to unblock my card - it actually worked out for the best, because paying online I would have had to pay everything up front, but I phoned up next day and booked by phone, and just paid a deposit.

My UK Barclays account did this to me last year when I was paying on line for air tickets :sad2:

I was so not amused as it doesn't happen here and I couldn't understand why it wasn't going through

The fraud divison phoned my parents who didn't have a clue what it was about, phoned me a bit of a panic and I had to phone a call centre that was not sure where so that was fun :sad2:

Got it sorted out, I explained to them what I was doing and told them that I would also be reserving a hotel. Was told it was ok.
Paid for flights and was blocked again when I tried for the hotel

This year I paid for the lot with my French card and it all went through no probs without any fuss or suspending account.

I can understand that banks have to be careful but the UK ones really do take it a bit too far :)

Good luck and maybe phone and do it that way as it seems so much easier :goodvibes

Thanks for your responses folks, though not happy you had to have the unhappy experiences. :sad2:

You'd think with all this intelligence putting stops here & there, the system would be smart enough to work out if I'd spent £400 with Air France & €90 with the Kyriad 2 nights ago, it wouldn't be unusual to spend £800 with Disney Paris last night. Both the previous transactions took me to that extra level of security, you know the password one, the one I can never remember :rotfl: yet it didn't even try that last night *word I can't use on a public forum :rolleyes1*

So what are my best options?

If I book by phone do they still charge £9, for a debit card ?

Think I might walk down to the local travel agents & see what they can offer.

At last.

Went to the local independent travel agents, told them exactly what we wanted, she matched the price, no credit card surcharge, but obviously no cash back either.

Debit Card wouldn't be authorised  TA reckons it's because the first payment is 'floating'. OH ran down to the cash point where the debit card did work & we put down £100 deposit which is a little more than the 10% deposit needed.

It's all taken a little edge of super, happy excited just booked our aces holiday mood & OH is swearing we're never booking or paying for anything online again

We're going to DISNEY :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: well OH & DD, I'm sleeping on a park bench til we get there & add me to the room :rotfl2:

Thanks again everyone.

:woohoo::dance3::woohoo:

I agree, sometimes these financial institutions just take it too far. Last year our summer holiday was a few days in London taking in two musicals. After booking the second show the card got stopped ... for security reasons ... I wouldn't have minded if they'd at least tried to contact us to see if it was us ...

Anyhow, put it behind you now .... you're all booked ... let the planning commence!! :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

Great news

Not only are you booked but you are supporting a local business and you've got someone to deal with face to face :thumbsup2

Shame about the cashback but with the debit/credit card fee and the hassle that seems to be involved it doesn't seem worth it :lmao:

Happy planning from now on :cheer2:

Planning . . . what planning . . . . !?!?!!! You just turn up don't you . . . . .

ONLY JOKING

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I'm having a hard job keeping my head in the now, it's permanently thinking of what, when & where for Disney

A character meal, for every meal is doable . . . RIGHT !?!?

:rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

I certainly think so :goodvibes

Get that ticker made you're of to DLP :woohoo:

Oh Lordy you're right . . . . .it's almost a year since I decided we were going too . . . now how do I sort out a ticker??????
:confused3

How did this vital piece of excitement gear get past 12 months of longing, without knowing how to do it

You can make a ticker from this site here or there's ticker factory, mickeypath, my vacation countdown ..... if you like the look of someone's ticker you can usually click on it and it will take you to the site so you can make your own.

ETA: Oops, sorry tinkertaylor, didn't mean to repeat what you said but my post took ages to appear.

Thank you, that's really helpful :thumbsup2

Which 'language' or 'type' do I need, or where do I find out? Just been searching trying to find out, or do they all work?

Spot the newbie :rotfl2:

There's loads of sites, mosty American, so if you google Disney vacation countdown or click on a few people's tickers and see if there are any you fancy on those sites :thumbsup2

Thanks.

I just spotted yours on the Inventions thread, & thought, ooouuhhhhh that's a nice ticker :cool2:

Just updating about the debit card, in case this happens to anyone else in the future. The card still isn't working for transactions but it working at ATM's :confused3

We had to got to the bank on Friday to sort a few things & the chap we saw was very helpful & spent ages with us. He said there was nothing on the system regarding the card & there was no reason we couldn't use it. Two hours later I tried to use the card to set up the 3G payments on the iPad & yep, wouldn't authorise it

Thankfully we'd just paid off the credit card, so can use that for online / instore purchases & we'd also changed accounts on Friday, so already have a new card ordered. As I've stated previously OH is a bit of a worrier, especially about anything formal or official, so Saturday we hot footed it back the bank - a different branch this time, where we were told exactly the same thing & they recommended ordering a new card, which we don't need to do, as there is already a new one on it's way.

Not sure what went wrong were, but there is a major problem somewhere. Glad this didn't happen when we were on holiday or the credit card was maxed out.

Glad you got everything booked in the end. I too get so fed up with our credit card company, they seem to stop the card all the time and then because I am the second cardholder on the account they will only speak to my other half to authorise the spending. So we have the ridiculous situation where the company phone the house when OH is at work, I tell them I just tried to spend x, they say they can't discuss it with me then phone OH at work only for him to have to phone me to check before phoning back the credit card company :confused3 To top it all off the only time there has been fraud on the account they didn't pick it up. You would think that 20 transactions of 1p on the account in one week all to mobile phone companies was far more suspicious than one payment to DLP.
