aadvantage miles question

I have miles that expire Jan 2018. If I book my flight before that date for a date after (June 2018 for example) am I allowed to do that?

Another question: they state on their site the expiration date increases by 18 months if I redeem or earn more miles. I have a rewards account where some of rewards are aadvantAge miles, would that count as earning?

I don't know about the first question but the 2nd question is yes. Anytime more miles are added to your account the expiration date will change. I have an AA credit card and that is what I use when I need to move back the expiration date of my miles.

I've made a purchase through their online store to bump my expiration date.

I also make purchases through the AAdvantage estore as a way to reset my expiry date (and gain more miles!). Plenty of merchants I buy from online participate.

You should be able to book the flight now (so to speak) for a flight that goes after the expiration date. They will take the miles when you book.
