I was at the beauty salon getting ready for our trip to WDW and the young woman who was doing my treatment asked if we were going with the grandkids (I'm 62). When I said it would just be my DH and I she said: "Oh, so you won't be going on any rides then". Why would people think that people our age only go to Disney for the kids??? As I said before, "aaaaaaaaaaaargh"!!!

My guess is they just don't get it at all! We're in our 50's and we are going in November. We love the rides!!!!! Our girls are in college and now it's time for us to spend our time enjoying each other and the things we love to do. Go, enjoy, and don't even try to educate those nay-sayers ~ they'll find out one day on their own.:rotfl:

You say, "aaaaaaaaaaaargh"!!!

I say, "sssssssssssssssssh"!!!

Don't tell 'em. ;)

1) many of us get our perception of the way things are from TV and let's face it, on TV you're either going to H.S. or you're ready for viagra.

2) Because for many kids (mine have this horrible habit) having fun when you're an senior is a foreign concept.

LOL

 The poor girl was just being nice and making conversation but I was really taken aback by the fact that she just assumed that "oldies" (though obviously I'm not one!!! :rolleyes1) don't do rides. We're both very respectable (?) teachers but we feel and act like kids at Disney! :rotfl:

And while we're on the subject, I was trying to explain to some very good friends of ours about how my daughter and I love to meet the characters when we go to Disney and both my friends put their heads in their hands and said: "Oh no", as if they could think of nothing worse. Poor misguided souls!!!:sad2:

I love this, Tinkerella: "Now it's time for us to spend our time enjoying each other and the things we love to do." We're exactly the same now our kids are grown - being "oldies" definitely has its benefits!!! ;)

I Completely Understand.

Even though I am 32 and my husband is 41, I have a similar problem in a different age group. We take our kids to WDW every other year and we have a romantic getaway just for us on the years we don't take the kids. I cannot tell you how many of my family, friends and co-workers think we should go to Cancun or Ireland or something. It's not that I don't want to go to those places, but I'm tired of people treating us like we're nuts for going to WDW. It CAN be enjoyed by people of all ages.

Somewhere I read that 50 is the "new 30" so you are actually only 42! Have fun! :)

Awww have fun!! I hope I am able to ride on the rides till my body can't take it anymore. :yay:

Well, I'm 59 and my DH is 62 and we love going to WDW as often as we can by ourselves. We have a blast just the two of us and we love getting on all the rides together. We are just a couple of kids when we're there also. We're still a couple of kids at heart anyway. You know what they say, your only as old as you feel. Have a great time.

We're far from spring chickens and have no kids. We love everything about the Parks. Imagine a pair of 50-somethings on Peter Pan, waving to Nana as they fly off to Neverland. Have traveled the world and been to many, many places. Disney World in FL is one of the most emotionally satisfying places we've ever been to. Pay no mind to the folks that don't "get it". Go and have a fabulous time!

I'm 65 and I'm going in December with extended family (the youngest is 16) and in January solo. You should hear the comments I get!

Ditto for me.

I went on a whim the year I turned 40 in 2000 just to treat myself and have been back the same week just about every year.

There is just something so wonderful about the place; so much to see and do, but so relaxing at the same time. And I go by myself a lot of the times. People think I am crazy to go by myself, but at the World, are you ever truly "by yourself."

I am 47. I will be riding DW rides (all of them) until I can't get on them or they won't let me for fear of heart failure. 90? You bet your Rockin Rollerkeester. Bring it on.:thumbsup2

I love that you guys want to go to Disney together and spend time doing fun stuff now the kids are out of the house. My IL's and my parents don't do this. I don't want to be like them in my 50's and 60's. My DH and I have fun without the kids now ;) I think our parents just let their world revolve around us too much growing up and they don't know how to have fun now we are gone.

My DM is your age and she loves Disney maybe more then any of us. Has nothing to do with age.:goodvibes

my mom is 71 and she loves to ride! I'm actually the one scared to ride. lol! more power to you, your only as old as you feel!

As one of my favorite storytellers, Tom Robbins said, "It's never too late to have a happy childhood". :yay:

If being in your 50's, is the new 4 year old. Then being in your 60's, should be the new 9 year old. I may be wrong about that.....but it sure sounds good. :thumbsup2
