AAA vs. AP

Hi Everyone!

I am just wondering if anyone can advise me about AP rates - I am going to book two rooms in All-Star Movies for next May. Would I be better off with the AP rate or the AAA rate (I know AAA is typically between 15%-20% cheaper than rack); I have looked all over the board to get an idea of the percentage of an AP discount, but have not found anything - but I did end up with some great savings tips!

Hope someone can help!

I have AAA and recently bought my AP. I can tell you that I had more trouble trying to get a AAA discount than an AP discount. I'm not sure why, though. I feel the AP more than pays for itself if you are staying 3 or 4 nights or more. The discount I received for a June stay was much better than the AAA rate. I wonder if there are less AAA rooms allotted than AP rate rooms. Someone here knows the answer and can tell you for sure. That is my own personal experience.

I had no trouble booking POR for 9 nights with AAA rate. I did end up getting an AP, so now it is POR for 4 nights and WL for 5 nights and I ended up saving about $50. I like that kind of math.

You save alot more with an AP rate. This year, the AP rate for the All Stars in May was $54/ night. That's a great deal!

It was not part of your question but I got a cheaper rate with the Disney Visa card for May and June of this year then with my AAA card. Originally booked with AAA and changed it to the Disney Visa as it was cheaper. I do not know how they compared to an AP as it has been several years since I had an AP.

Someone else who saves like me! My DH can not understand this kind of math, he thinks we are not really saving. We went from 7 nights at Pop, to 7 nights at Pop and 3 at AKL for the same price.

I like that kind of math, too!

We had originally reserved 10 nights at the cabins,7 with a discount code for anyone to use, and 3 at the rack rate. I decided to go ahead and buy the AP decided to see what rate we could get with it. We now have 10 nights in the cabins, 2 nights at POFQ, and 2 nights at POR (with trundle), for about the same price as the original ressie, maybe $100 more. I think that's really a deal!!

I could not get any availability with the AAA rate for the same time.

I originally booked the POFQ using the AAA rate of $136.00 per night (tax included). When the Disney Visa rates came out I went down to 99.26 per night, then the AP rates came out and I am now paying 82.53 per night. We were going to stay 7 nights at the POFQ, and I had booked 2 rooms. Now we are staying 5 nights at the POFQ (2 rooms) and 2 nights at the Poly, we will only need one room there. Even with the extra fee for a third adult at the Poly, I am still saving just over $500.00 from my original reservation.
