AAA vs. AP Room Discounts

I am planning a trip for May of 2007 and had a question for experienced DIS posters... In everyone's experience, if the AP rates are available, do you get a better deal buying the AP and using those rates, or are the AAA rates the way to go.. Let's just say for a 5 to 6 day stay... thanks in advance..

I have an AP. We were unable to get an AP rate for our trip last week - they were only available at certain resorts.

I did get an AP rate for my trip in September. At first I had AAA, then the AP rates came out. THe AP rate was only $5.00 less per night than the AAA rate.

AP rates used to be really really good! I only have the AP now because we're going 3 times within one year. If I get a room discount on top of it, that's great, but I'm not counting on AP rates anymore. I'll be happy with AAA if that's all I can get. And if I have to pay rack rate, I'll stay at WL or AKL instead of the GF or the Polynesian.

Bought AP's during last Dec. trip, unable to secure an AP rate then, this June or mid-Oct. (still hoping).

Consider myself lucky to have snagged a AAA rate @ CR for Oct. since none were available for late June from 7 months ahead of time.

People bemoaned the BRP, remember the old adage be careful what you wish for...I'll keep checking for AP rates but, think w/overall occupancy rates rising - they'll be reserved for the less desireable resorts & times.
