I have to pay my balance soon on my AAA package. At that time I have to decide it I want the insurance or not. But I just don't know.

We are driving, so no fears of lost luggage or airline delays.

Any opinions?????????

This is such a personal preference....

I never get travel insurance, but there are many who swear by it.
I guess I have too much trust in the system!

I did not get the insurance offered through AAA. (Actually, they offered Disney insurance on the package because it was cheaper than AAA insurance.) I opted to go with insuremytrip.com. I paid about $45 less and the benefits were about the same. I chose to insure the package because it is nonrefundable without the insurance if something would happen at the least minute.

Please tell me why y'all have bought AAA memberships. I am considering joining...but I am afraid it is for all the wrong reasons: discounts on resorts, particularly the Polynesian! Any other reasons that I would benefit from using it?
Thanks!

We have the AAA membership and have used it at various times throughout the year for discounts other than just Disney. For example, right now I am in KY staying at Holiday Inn Express and received a discount. We have received discounts on dining out, getting the oil changed, etc. Not to mention the peace of mind from knowing that if my car breaks down, they are just a phone call away. I haven't used it for Disney yet but am really looking forward to the extra $$$!

If you travel alot, its well worth it. There are discounts at virtually every hotel chain in the country. We use it three or four times a year for travel discounts. There are also discounts with various national and local merchants, but we don't use it much for that. There are also various insurance programs, auto financing programs, etc. We have been members for years, and it pays for itself. (Actually, this year is the first time we've used it for Disney reservations, because there have always been codes or deals before. This year, we actually booked the package through AAA. They don't know as much about Disney as most of the folks on these boards do, so you have to kind of talk them through it.)

You might want to go to this thread that I posted the other day. Originally it was about receiving my documents from AAA, but other questions were brought up. "Yellowfish" posted on page 2 in good detail about what AAA can do for a disney vacation at:

We got the insurance because it's a drop in the bucket compared to the cost of the trip. You just never know what will happen!

I'm about to put the deposit on our trip thru AAA this Oct. and I'll get the insurance ($89, I think). With young kids and older relatives at home, you never know when you may have to cancel.

Stupid question (s) from me----

Can someone please tell me again what the insurance covers exactly??

I originally had taken the insurance through Disney reservations--but then changed our package from Dreamaker to MYW and saved mega bucks---but she told me that I would not be allowed to take the insurance (I'm assuming this is because I was so close to our vacation when changing plans).

What does losing luggage have to do with insurance? and what does an airline being late have to do with insurance? If I show up a few hours later or even the next day, you're saying I will lose my whole 9 days of vacation? They will turn me away at the door because the airline didn't get me there on the correct day?

There have been times where I have not gotten trip insurance, and times I have. It is purely a gamble.
Between each of us having elderly parents and Disney vacations costing so much anyway, I opted for insurance.
I imagine those who battled the hurricanes last year were grateful for having trip insurance.
If you get it, make sure to read the fine print and understand what trip insurance will and will not do for you.
I have never filed a claim against trip insurance.

From what I have seen WDTC is very good about moving res' or not charging penalties when trips are delayed due to inclement weather or airline problems. (Same with early check out)

Lock your keys in your car just once and you'll be glad you joined. :teeth:
The AAA package I booked saved me about $500, so it's more than worth the $45 membership. There are many other benefits, too. I just found out you can get a free coupon book to use at the outlet stores here. If you take advantage of all they offer it's well worth it. :)

TAKE the insurance, from someone who knows!!.. 2 years ago, we wnt to Disney for 8 days. The airlines lost my luggage, my husband and kids had theirs. I had nothing but the clothes I was wearing and my carryon bag which contained makeup, shampoo, toiletries...etc. (Actually that is more important than the clothes) I did not get my luggage until day 6 of our trip. It was in Puerto Rico!! The people at the Orlando airport were absolutly horrible. I should say ATA. It took the Midway Chicago ATA reps and the Disney insurance company to find my luggage and get it to me. When I opened it, to my suprise, almost everything was stolen. Bathing suits, shorts, shoes, shirts, dresses and believe it or not, worn Victoria Secret Undies and Bra's. I figured who ever stole the clothing must have needed it! The Airline wanted to give me 25.00 PER DAY. The insurance paid for all of the missing articles. The Airlines did give me 2 free passes, which I used for disney last year. This was the second trip my luggage was lost in 1 year. I will always buy insurance if I can. It is so worth it.

Crazy as it was, I did not let it ruin my trip 1 bit. Afterall I was at the happiest place on earth!!

If you have to prepay a lot of money, as with a cruise, then trip insurance is usually a wise decision. However, if I'm booking everything separately, usually only airline tickets have been prepaid, and those can generally be rebooked for a later date by paying a $100/per person (sometimes less, depending on the airline) fee. For a WDW package, it depends on how much you'd lose if you couldn't take the trip. As someone else mentioned, you can shop for a policy at www.insuremytrip.com :) Compare several policies...they don't all have the same coverages.

Never got the insurance on our package last year. I think if you are flying, it would be a good thing. Or like others have said check other places.

It seemed our TA was upset when we turned down the insurance. Not sure if they get a kick back or not for someone getting it.

If anyone happens to read the other thread that jels started and posted the address in her post, if you read yellowfish post, Vacation Girl is my TA. LOL!!! She's more worried about her vacas then her clients vacas.

Make sure exactly what is covered, you may be surprised that not much is. I've never gotten it, and so far have been fortunate enough to not need it.

I usually don't buy the insurance, but this time I did..reason being, one of my clients was all set to fly out to AZ to visit her mother (this week, actually). I debated on whether or not she should buy the insurance at first, then went ahead and added it on to her total. Two weeks later, her mother called up and said she had fallen and broken her ankle and needed surgery, and my client wasn't going to be able to come. If I hadn't gotten the insurance on her flight, she would have been out $381.00! Insurance company is giving her a full refund on an otherwise non-refundable ticket.
