I am new to the whole codes thing, as I have been posting in the Weddings and Honeymoons forum mostly -- so, Hi everyone! :wave2: I was wondering, to take advantage of the AAA discount, do I have to be a member, or can I use my parents AAA membership # ? Also, are these AAA discounts really good?

Also, to take advantage of the AAA discount, does the res have to be booked thru AAA?

To use the AAA discount you can probably use your parents membership. They will tell you that you need to show the card when you check in, but I have NEVER been asked to show my AAA card when checking in at a Disney resort or any other hotel where I have gotten a AAA discount.
The discount can be anywhere from 10 to 20 percent off, based on the resort and the time you go.
You can book a room only reservation with the AAA discount directly through Disney. Just tell them that you want a room only reservation with a AAA discount. If you want a package, then you need to go through a AAA travel agent.

We use our AAA discount when no AP discounts are available (i.e., our fall break last October). Generally, we've gotten the 10% discount. I would strongly urge anyone booking directly with WDW. Whenever we've tried to go through our local AAA office, we never get a discount. The same was true when a co-worker tried to book her trip this past May. She saved quite a bit going directly through WDW -- but no savings was offered through our local office. (I emphasis the "local" part because this may not be the same everywhere. My advice: I would call both and compare offers.) Contrary to the above poster, I have had to give my AAA number when I made my reservations. Dh always checks us in, so I'm not sure if he has had to show his card. Like using our AP's, it's probably different with each check-in.

I was asked for our AAA card when we checked into the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim this past April. Last week, when we checked into the Poly at WDW we were asked to show our AP's for the AP rate.

Our experiences have been very different. We are almost always asked to show our card at check-in, when taking advantage of an AAA discount at any hotel. I would not recommend attempting to book WDW at the AAA discounted rate without actually joining AAA. In most cases, you can still save a significant amount after you pay your AAA membership fees. And it is always nice to know that you can call AAA for roadside assistance when you need them. :moped:

Many thanks! all the acronyms are hard to figure out...so many boards have ones that are specific to the area of discussion...lol makes my head swirl!!

thanks again

I too have been asked for my AAA card.

I wouldn't risk it. It only runs 40-60 to join, depending on where you live. Plus you can take advantage of other discounts and such.

I don't know if it is possible but maybe you can have your parents add you to their AAA membership.

AAA membership is worth it due to the roadside assistance. It almost pays for itself if you ever need to be towed someplace, and it's nice to have it if something goes wrong with your car. I've had it happen with and without AAA, and the peace of mind is worth it. Disney discounts are but icing on the cake.
