AAA discounts. Are they worth it?

Hi Tubachick:

Did the AAA note also say CAA members? Wow, I have been a CAA (canadian version) member for 31 years, we could have used it at dtd and some of the restaurants, I probably could have saved about 75.00 on our last trip.

I knew it saved a certain percentage on hotel rooms but not the other stuff.

Thanks,

Deb.

It doesn't say AAA/CAA, but the symbols for both are on the "Diamond" card. the CAA with the circle right? But if you book through CAA, I don't see why you wouldn't get the benfits, but that is only my logic.

tubachick - thanks for that info. Gives me a better idea of what benefits there are. I actually have an offer I received in the mail a couple of days ago to join for $49, so now may be a good time to jump on board.

I just called about an hour ago to change my reservation to a AAA one.

I forgot when I booked it on Saturday that I could tell the Disney resevationists that I have AAA.

I checked the AAA site first to see if the room was available and it was.

We are staying at the Poly, garden view 8days/7nights & with out a discount the room was 2372.72 & with the AAA discount applied it came to $2014.00. So that is about $350 savings.

Now if codes come out for July I will call and see what the code rate is and if it is cheaper I will switch it again.

The AAA discount has really paid off for me, if you can get it, then use it!

I switched our ressie from Wilderness Lodge (not much available for AAA rooms) to Coronado Springs. AAA saved me about $450 off CSR king room rack rates! :cheer2: And switching resorts cut our resort spending nearly in half. That's a lot of Dole Whips. :cloud9:

I can't believe I got the discount on the holiday weekend! Now I don't have to sweat the AP codes. If there is a code that will save a significant amount, I'll invest, especially since we'll be there two weeks and if not, I'll be purchasing 10 day MYW with hopping. And that's that.

I am happy that it has worked out for many people, AAA pays for itself even if you don't use it for anything else. DH uses it all the time at NAPA and other places too ;)

Even if there is no discount with AAA, I know if the car breaks down on me in the middle of the road, I know I just call AAA and they will be there to help me. Also if you accidentally locked yourself out, they come to help open the door.

Also, I get a monthly or every other month magazine on travel/vacation. For March/April, they are featuring the state of Hawaii. I think this is the best part of being a member. I get to see what AAA is featuring that month. Some months is Disney month and some months is Universal month and some months is all about cruising.

Being a member also gets you a book on where to lodge and dining. They rate them for you.. best or average or poor. You can also have any maps you want. I have some maps of Florida. They will also print out for you a map of how to get from your house to Disney or to where ever you want to in the US. It will tell you the route and how long the drive would be from one point to another.

They have so many brochures and booklets that you can keep. I have the Disney booklet and Disney Cruise Line booklet. I also have the Universal Studio booklet. They have booklets on other cruise line too. They tell me how much I will save, when and what resort.

You can save some $$ if you buy your park tickets there too. As far as what ticket they sell may depend on where you live. Here we have Six Flags, King's Island, Michigan Adventure, Cedar Point and Universal. They were selling the park hoppers too, but I am not sure now cause the ticket is now MYW.

It pays to be a member of AAA.

I think we can compare apples to apples. I have a room only ressie at the CR tower for 5/31-6/5. I am saving $43 per night. For your three nights it would be a $129 savings. I booked my room in September, however, so I don't konw if AAA room only is still available.

we booked our honeymoon in January through AAA and we saved $200 over the disney website price, plus they gave us AAA extras and $25 Disney Dollars for when we check in, I can't wait!!

Question???

So If I book thru AAA and a discound code comes out on a later date, is it a problem to change your reservation to the discount code if it applies? :confused3

Thanks in advance.

As long are the AAA discount is available for that date and that resort, then there should not be any problem applying the discount after you made your ressies.

I find myself easier to book my room thru CRO than AAA. I sometimes feel that with AAA they are are not helping you find the better deal. I think they work on commission, the more expensive the vacation is, the more they get paid...I don't know.
