AAA discount Questions, Grand Gatherings, etc.

We are planning a Feb 2009 Grand Gathering visit to WDW. We want to book a room only soon and move it up to a package when available. I know we can book a room only through WDW with a AAA discount, but can we book the package with a AAA discount through WDW travel? I thought I remember reading somewhere that a AAA package has to be booked through AAA.

If this is the case should I book the room only through AAA now, and do I book Grand Gatherings through them or deal directly with WDW once I have a reservation?

No you can only book room only AAA discount through Disney res., you have to go through a AAA TA to add the package. You might want to make your res. now, it's getting more and more popular and things will get booked way ahead of time. For example standard view rooms at WL sell out very quickly.
