It won't matter on your reservation but if you are driving and anticipate needing AAA then I would renew before leaving. My AAA card has a member since date and not an expiration date on it. But if you call needing to be towed they will ask you to renew via a credit card over the phone.
I just want to be sure when I check in that I get the AAA discount for the entire 13 days even though it will expire on day 7. That's the only reason I have AAA so I really don't want to renew my membership.

Fact is the hotel clerks seem to be getting pretty laxed about check everything... the last two times I've stayed they never even asked to see my annual pass to verify I was supposed to get the passholder discount.

I would absolutely not depend on this if you have booked an AAA or AP discount. I do one or the other for every single trip that is not in my DVC resort. I have been asked for the appropriate card at every one of those 30+ trips.
To OP: If you show your AAA card when you check-in, you will not need to present it again. You will be fine. Have a great trip!
