I've been reading these boards for about a year, but just recently joined. This is only my 3rd post, but I'm hoping someone can answer some questions. My dad is trying to organize a trip for my parents, my family of 4, and my sister's family of 4. Some of the things his AAA agent are telling him just don't seem right.

1. Isn't there supposed to be a room discount for going through AAA? We are looking at a moderate resort during value season, and what she is quoting him appears to be rack rate.

2. We all took this same trip last year, and didn't have to pay until shortly before the trip (same AAA agent). This year she says we need to pay in full as soon as we book the trip. When my dad asked her why it's different from last year, she said because last year we booked rooms and airline only through her. This year, because we are looking into a package, it has to be paid for immediately.

Does this sound right? Also, if we did have to pay up front, could you pay AAA with the Disney Visa, and then have 6 months to pay that off?

Thanks for any help you can give me!

You should be able to get a room discount. It is true that you have to pay sooner for a package instead of room only where you pay the first night of each room and the balance at check-in. You can book room only through WDW and still get AAA. Hope this helps. Cindy

No it doesn't sound right... I booked a AAA package last week... here is what we figured out... the rooms at rack rate would be about $174 a night plus tax.. we did a preferred room.... when we broke it out with the AAA package they were about $156 per night including tax.....

We had to put down $200 and the rest must be paid 45 days prior to departure. I would recommend about 60 days though to make sure its done in time... the only reason you would have to pay in full is if you were traveling within 45 days...

hope this helps...

The rate for a moderate room with the AAA discount is about $119 plus tax per night. I have already called to find out. With a room only reservation, you pay for the first night up front and pay the balance at check in. With a package you need to pay in full 45 days before departure. If you are within that time frame you would need to pay in full at time of booking. I see no reason why you can't pay on your credit card, no matter which card it is. The perk of the Disney Visa is you get the 6 months interest free.

Hope that helps.:goodvibes

Lones,

First off that doesn't sound right. I too have a AAA membership, even though on my trip that I just returned from I didn't use it. What I do remember is that with a package deal you put the deposit down ($200) and 45 days prior to your trip you pay it all up front.

Is your package deal including free dining or any other promotion? If so the AAA discount will not be appkicable as Disney does not combine promo's.

If you are doing a room only rental I believe you could even cancel >24 hours and still not incurr any expenses.

When using your Disney Chase card you can purchase the trip through a travel agent (ie AAA) and Chase will see that the merchant ID of the charge is Disney Travel Corp, thus invoking the 6 month 0% interest promotion

Remember that there are only a limited number of rooms at each resort that qualify for the AAA discount. They may all be gone for the dates your father is looking for.

If they are available, the discount is only on the room portion of the package; the tickets and dining plan aren't discounted.

I was told today by AAA that I can book my package and get the AAA Discount and if/when free dining is offered in 9/09 then they will modify my reservation to give me the free dining. I thought I read on here that free dining and AAA discount couldnt be combined? But maybe when booking thru AAA it is ok? Any thoughts???

You are right, that your AAA TA may be able to apply the free dining at a later date......but if applied you would lose your AAA discount. Disney will only allow one discount per reservation.

PS...we used a AAA TA on our last trip. She booked a MYW pkg. for us and our airfare. We had to pay the $200 down for the package and all of our airfare at the time of booking. The remainder was due 45 days prior to arrival!!!

Just be sure you call your AAA agent and specifically request them to get you the free dining if the offer comes out in the Spring again...you won't automatically get the change.

And the discounted room rate will come off when Free Dining goes on, so you may want to do the math and see which would save you more money. If you're in a deluxe room, the discount may be a better deal, depending on family size.
