Any rooms that
AAA may have access to are from CRO's allotment. The
DVC member inventory of rooms is completely separate from the inventory of rooms available to CRO/AAA/Expedia/Travelocity, etc.
CRO gets DVC rooms to rent for cash from several sources:
1. Disney retains a small percentage of ownership at each DVC resort. The room nights represented by that percentage (if not needed for administrative purposes) are often rented to the general public for cash. DVC members do not own these rooms.
2. Unsold inventory (aka developer's inventory or rooms not declared into the condominium). These room nights represent the percentage of a finished DVC resort that hasn't been sold to members yet. These rooms belong to the developer and are also rented to the general public for cash.
3. DVC member trades. When a member chooses a non-DVC option (except for trades made via II), DVC sends the equivalent number of room nights to CRO to rent for cash. After CRO takes a portion (like a TA's commission), the cash for the rooms is sent back to DVC who then uses it to pay for the member's choice. The largest number of DVC rooms available to the general public comes from members who use their points for a non-DVC resort. Examples of this would be a DVC member who uses points to take a cruise or for a stay at the GF.
Best wishes -
P.S. That first week of December has been booked solid for some time now. Believe there were already waitlists for some of those days not too long after the 7 month window opened. IMHO, it's one of the most popular times of the year for DVC members to visit. Hope your waitlist comes through.
