I'm thinking that Loews and
AAA have a partnership, aside from AAA also being a rating system that Loews has adhered to for the past 7 years. The Orlando Loews Resorts (On Universal property) have received the elite 4 Diamond Award, each year on each resort since they opened. So its just my opinion but I imagine this may be a courtesy (the AAA discount at the resorts) from Loews to AAA. Then again, I could be all wrong! Just thought I'd take a gander.
This may help a little. I read about it here.

2/1/2006 - ORLANDO, FL Loews Hotels at Universal Orlando, including Royal Pacific Resort, Portofino Bay Hotel and Hard Rock Hotel, are among an elite group of hotel properties in the Orlando area to receive the American Automobile Associations (AAA) Four Diamond Award for 2006. The Four Diamond Award honors hotel properties that know the language of quality, as they consistently deliver a luxury experience, complete with a high level of service, amenities, and impressive surroundings.
We are delighted to have our hotels once again receive this important distinction, says Loews Hotels Regional Vice President David King. It is a testament to the talent and dedication of all of our team members and the vibrant experience that we create for our guests.
Loews Hotels at Universal Orlando have earned the award every year in which they have been eligible since first opening. Portofino Bay Hotel has won the AAA Four Diamond award for seven consecutive years, while Hard Rock Hotel has won for five consecutive years and Royal Pacific Resort has earned the distinction for three consecutive years. In 2006, only three percent of all AAA approved properties received the Four Diamond award.
