AA Baggage allowance, CONFUSED

Hi, I'm flying indirect to Orlando with American Airlines.

I'm so confused about the baggage allowance, can anyone make it plain and simple for me? PLEASE.

There are 2 of us going, we will have one suitcase each to check-in.

I believe they charge $15 for checking each bag !!! Will this also apply when check-in for our connecting flight?

Has anyone travelled recently with AA? Would love to hear what happened with your luggage. I want to be prepared !!!

i have aa flights booked through virgin holidays for our transfer from orlando to mexico, will i have to pay then? I have asked aa and they said no but I think they were confused as its not an international flight but now I dont know

Orlando to Mexico would be an international flight

Not if it doesn't include an overnight stop as it would be classed as a through flight.

Claire, we are only stopping at Dallas for a couple of hours but we will be clearing customs, therefore we need to check in again! I think that's how it works, this is the first time I'm flying in-direct... I hope it's simple !!

think your getting confused with usa carriers charging for bags on internal flights,
If you have booked an international flight your alowed that alowance on your conecting flights,there and back

Delta now has different rules than it used to as well...
on internal flights, you're permitted only 1 free bag, while on international you're permitted 2 bags..

so for DD's flight - on the way there, she's stopping in NYC for 3 days..
so on the flight to the US, she's entitled to 2 bags free...
but from NYC to Orlando, she's only entitled to 1 for free...

but then on her way back, she's only connecting in NYC (no stop) so she's entitled to 2 bags on both legs of the flight (orlando- NYC and then from NYC on the international leg of the flight)..

the baggage allowance actually appears on her e-ticket, so that's how i know...

It looks like we can check in 2 bags each up to 32k per bag.... then I get confused when it says bags over 23k are subject to a $50 fee.

Up to 23kg in each bag is free and if it weighs over 23kg but under 32kkg there is an extra fee, VA also do this now for economy passengers, its probably all to do with transportation costs ie fuel!

Not to do with fuel but manual handleing,for the bagage handlers backs

You're being so patient with me, sorry to be so thick about all this.... but it says that we can check in 2 bags @ 32kgs each. Why then would they charge if they are over 23kgs? So even though it says we can check 2x32kgs they will charge us !! Then it says that they will accept a max of 3 pieces !!

So if I've got this right We are allowed up to 3 pieces weighing less than 32kgs and will be charged $50 for each. We are not allowed the 32kgs stated unless we pay the fee.

Ok as I see it you can have 2 x 23kg free of charge if either piece is 23kg - 32kg (maximum allowed) then it is $50 per piece.

So -

a) one bag is 21kg = free, the second is 27kg = $50 charge

b) one bag is 25kg = $50, second bag is 30kg = $50

c) one bag is 21kg = free, second bag is 19kg = free

Also you can have excess baggage and that is subject to extra fees up to a maximum of 3 bags incurring the excess weight fee.
