Day Two – Tuesday
Goofy woke us up and I switched on the TV and caught the very excited blonde girl with her list of 10 things you must do energeticly bouncing around.
After breakfast we took advantage of the Extra Magic Hours and made our way to Discoveryland and walked onto Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast, with laser pistols in hand, and lots of zapping was done, with DW having the highest score. Then on to Fastasyland, were we ride the Dumbo’s, The Tea Cups, and Peter Pan again and for It’s a Small World for the first time this trip. Tuesday was very quite in both parks and we experienced hardly any queues, the majority of the rides were quick walk-on’s. The weather again was a little wet with the odd shower now and again.
Lunch time was soon upon us and we leave the park and go to Café Mickey in Disney Village. On the way we pop into City Hall to ask where the mysterious Saloon Mickey is hidden.
We had never done a character lunch before so did not know what to expect. We ordered from the menu, I went with the Half Board Plus menu and DW went A La Carte. Soon Mickey and Minnie appeared and a host of other characters. They all came to our table which was fun as DW had her back to the centre of the restaurant so she could not see who was going to pounce on her next.
Paying the bill was fun, the waitress came over with the bill and DW showed her the Shareholders club letter which gave us a 15% discount then we handed over the Half Board Plus vouchers. Little tip here for members of the shareholders club – hand over the discount card when you ask for the bill, then pay with you meal vouchers, other wise the waitress will take the cost of the meal vouchers off the bill first then add the 15% discount. A Euro saved in a restaurant is another Euro to spend on toys, I mean park souvenirs later.
That afternoon was spent in Walt Disney Studios. A lot has changed here since 2005 with the addition of Hollywood Boulevard with the Hollywood sign backdrop, Crushers Coaster, Cars Quatre Roues Rallye, and Stitch Live! But wow! Towering above everything is The Hollywood Tower Hotel.
While in Studios, we experienced our first ride break down on the Studio Tram Tour: Behind the Magic. We were not even half away around then the tractor unit broke down next to the Dinotopia entrance gates and we had to wait for another tram to come along. But they made up for it as we were taken around the Catastrophe Canyon twice. One thing I noticed was that the Dutch/German and Spanish/Italian language versions of the commentary have the gone, leaving just Jeremy Irons and Irène Jacob to provide the video commentary.
Then we had to do Stitch Live! While we were out side waiting for the English language version to start I was trying to persuade DW that we really, really, really have to ride The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.
DW loves Stitch and found Stitch Live! Great fun. Stitch Live! originates from Hong Kong Disneyland, where it is know as the Stitch Encounter. The ride uses the same technology as Turtle Talk with Crush, found at Epcot and Disney's California Adventure parks, replacing Crush with Stitch and modifying the location and events accordingly. The kids in the audience loved this attraction and so did DW. Then onto Armageddon: Special Effects, which is still a great walk through, the fire and vacuum effects are wonderful, then for a ride on the Flying Carpets Over Agrabah.
Then we walk over to The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and sat out side for a while admiring the building and theming and looking at the magic sign. Then after much persuasion (or my constant nagging) DW says I can whine like a two year old, we enter ToT on the condition that DW would use the chicken door and not ride.
The Walt Disney Imagineers have gone to town on this one. The theming is fantastic, and you feel like you have just stepped into a real 1930’s hotel. I’ve spent quite a bit of time behind the scenes of some posh old hotels looking for convention venues and, boy have the Imagineers got the behind the scenes of an old hotel bang on, to the fading paint and rusty old pipe work. The CM’s in the ToT play their parts well and within a few minuets we are standing by the elevator door and DW tells the CM “I’ll be chickening out now thank you…” and she was shown to the exit stairs.
Well what a ride!!!! The visual effects are great, and the view over the park fantastic, and the ride down, wow! I could feel the couple of inches of air between me and my seat on the way down!!!!
Then into the gift shop for a look around then onto Toon Town for a ride on Cars Quatre Roues Rallye.
After much discussion I finally persuade DW that ToT is really not all that bad and that she would enjoy it. She likes to do one extreme ride per visit to DLRP and we both agreed that ToT would be it for this trip.
So back into ToT and we take a very leisurely walk through, letting people pass us as we walk around looking at all the theming. Then we face the elevator doors and I double check she really wants to do the ride, she nods and we get our marks on the floor and wait for the doors to open, holding hands we get on and sit down.
DW screamed a lot! And when we got out, she gave me one of those looks and I gave her a big hug telling her how brave she was, and I got her a ToT Stitch and a ToT Stitch Pin trading starter kit from the gift shop as a reward for not hitting me any more…..
The park was closing by this time and our minds turned to food. So we walked through the Village to the lake, our plan was to eat in one o fthe other hotel resturants tonight. After walking around to all three of the hotels around the lake checking out their menus, we finally decided to head back to the Hotel Cheyenne and eat there.
The all you can eat buffet costs 21 Euros and we had our Half Board Plus vouchers to use, but DW worked out that after her shareholder discount it would be cheaper to charge the meal to the room and save tonight’s vouchers as their cash value was 24 Euros and spend them later.
After dinner we had a few drinks in the bar and listened to the country music band play and then it was time to head off to bed.
