My dear friends,

It's been a while since I've been here but I finally have my act together (that is, we finally got the film developed) to tell you about the weekend DP and I did at Vero Beach in January.

We requested and got an ADA Inn Room (#2223) on the ocean side of the building. The room has the same amenities as a DVC Studio but it is smaller and has 2 beds vs. bed and pull-out sofa. The only bad thing about our room was that it is right next to the lounge and it could get noisy if you keep the door open to hear the ocean as we did. The lounge closes at midnight so this wasn't too bad of an issue. We requested and got one of the resort wheelchairs, which we used all weekend at no charge. They even have 2 special wheelchairs for use on the beach and a ramp to the beach. We did this on Saturday morning and it was nice to be on the beach. The only downside is that it was very difficult to get back up the ramp when we were done due to a lot of sand that had collected in the ramp. Luckily, DP can walk so he just got out and used the chair as a walker. If you are going to use this, it would be helpful to have 2 people pushing to go back up the ramp.

As for getting around in general, the resort is small and it was very easy to get to everywhere, including a special recreation area across the street. There is not much to do in that area unless you have an all-terrain wheelchair or ECV. I think the highlight of the trip was the campfire, Sing-along and S'mores they had Saturday night. While most of the area is sand, they was a concrete pad on the one side where DP was able to park but it was not close enough to the fire for him to roast his own marshmallow. The restaurants and lounge were all easily accessible and thankfully it wasn't so crowded that we had to wait for a table I could wheel him to.

The pool area has a set of parallel bars at the pool steps for those who can walk as long as they have something to hold onto and another entry for those in wheelchairs to scoot themselves down a set of wider steps into the pool (sorry, I don't know the technical term for these, maybe someone can include in a reply?).

The only area that might be inaccessible or difficult to get into was community hall. The walls and doors were too close together for me, let alone someone in a wheelchair. This wasn't an issue for us since there wasn't anything happening we wanted to do but it may be an issue for someone else.

All in all, we would go back, no hesitation. We give it :thumbsup2:thumbsup2. If anyone is interested in the pictures we took, please reply and I will get them up this week.
