I'm not good at posting pics, video, etc (heck, I have trouble spelling!) but wanted to share with my fellow DVC'ers a fantastic trip home we just experienced.
Flew out on my BD (oh, please, no songs) and spent the first night off grounds at Marriot Village Courtyard. Was nice. Golden Corral next door seemed quick for fueling before sleep. Was not, was dirty, food sucked (IMHO) and some kid dropped chocolate pudding on my foot. I know, I should be grateful it was pudding.
Saturday morning we woke early and headed for OKW to check in and get to the House Of Mouse's MK for opening. Had a kinda confused checker-inner but 1 bedroom was ready which was great. Went to throw the bags in the room quick like to make opening. Got to the room, no keys. Okay, maybe the checker-inner was not the only confusee of the day. Raced back, got keys, threw bags, MK bus was at the stop and....pulled out without us. By this point my middle aged body was puffing so hard and so determined to make the opening show (which we love...I don't know why) that when the bus passed after making the U-Turn I ran into the road and raised my hands in pleading. You know what's coming...bus stopped, magic started! We rode everything with little wait. That night I wanted to see Spectro, which morning checker-inner said was at 9, but when we got there at 8:45, it was, of course over. Why I believed that confused checker-inner in the first place is beyond me. BUT...a CM said we should go out in front of the train station because the company that supplies Disney with fireworks was celebrating 60 years of partnership with an unadvertised free fireworks show. Again, to us a magical moment. Fireworks were, say, of Wishes quality but the finale was astounding. My overly endowed chest reverberates just thinking about it!
Next day we tackled AK, which has become our second favorite park, and had a ball. Rode Everest twice...does anyone else think it's just a tad slower than in the beginning? Saw Nemo show, rode Safari and stuffed ourselves at Yak & Yeti. If you haven't tried it, we recommend it (with the caveat that everyone's taste is different). Had lettuce wraps for appetizer and split skewered battered shrimp (name escapes me...my mind has retention level of my bladder) entree with a side of the deep fried green beans...yum. Was delish! Fried wontons with grilled pineapple for dessert. If you haven't already, try it.
Slept in and relaxed on Monday. Rained hard enough to come into the villa through the dryer vent. Only a small flood. Was fixed quickly, as was the toliet (needed new innards). Maintenance was very responsive. We ate at the Wave restaurant on Monday and loved it. Had pork and beef dishes with crab cake and salad appetizers. Service was great and we'll be going back. We loved the little touches in the restaurant design. I'm babbling...I'll stop.
Did the Studios today. My favorite TOT (twice) and TSM (four times). We were underwhelmed by the Beauty and the Beast show. Had lunch at the Brown Derby (not on our excel schedule but decided to treat ourselves) and had an unusual pasta dish, but good, and, of course, the cobb salad. Sounds like all we do is eat, doesn't it? No Fantasmic this trip for the first time ever. We're trying to get used to the idea of having to fight to see one of only two shows a week next time we come. (What is Disney thinking????)
Wednesday we slept in. Getting used to the hard mattresses by this time! We went to have lunch at our favorite Crystal Palace and stopped to listen to the Main Street gang entertain. Scoop Sanderson, Hildegard Olivia Harding, Mayor Weaver, the wonderful sax group, and others and ended up being dragged into a chorus of song with them! If you happened to be there, we apologize profusely! What fun! Ya gotta love those unplanned magical moments. After lunch with Tigger, Pooh and the gang (and all that delicious food),we took the monorail to EPCOT and rode Soarin' and Test Track and Mission Space and Spaceship Earth (love what they've done with it) and spent some time on the Segways at Innovations. Burped up some free cola from Coke and headed home (for a nap, of course).
Thursday we hit World Showcase and early-tasted some of the treats from this years Food & Wine festival. Once they got the cash registers working, it was great. Let's see..we sampled the excellent cheese plate, the cheddar cheese soup...oh, for pete's sake, look at my location, folks, we're from Wisconsin, we have to try the cheese...the ice wine, the piroegi's (sp) and sausage, and much more that my stomach cannot bear to type. Glad we had no plans for dinner! And we finally saw Spectro tonight! The magic continues.
On Friday we slept in and went to the pool. The day was beautiful. Not the usual Florida heat and humidity at this time of year. Following our relaxing day we went to Boma, one of our very favorite places, for dinner. We were so sorry to hear that Chef TJ has moved to Ohanas, but, at least for now, the selections were as special as always.
Following our final night on the rock mattress (the rest of the villa is so beautiful and our housekeeper made the most fantastic towel animals we've ever seen so we're only making fun of the mattresses, folks. We love, love OKW) we sadly packed our belongings and headed back to Air Tran (who was early both coming and going, can you believe it?) to wing our way back to reality.
Thanks for sharing this mini-revival of our fun. It's so hard to readjust to reality, isn't it? At least I can concentrate on our March trip. We're trying a rental kid for this one. Can't wait! Again, thanks for reading! DVC'ers and DIS'ers are the best!
