A woman dies on Space mountain?

Why do people ride rides with heart problems when they know they are sick? Maybe they want to die or cannot pass to the thrill?

Septic shock leads me to believe this was much more than she had a heart issue she didn't think was going to affect her. She must have had something and was just powering through it.

In all fairness Space Mountain is not that intense. Not compared to rides at Cedar Point or some of the Six Flags parks. When your time is up, it's up. May as well enjoy the time you have here.

Has the Sentiel run the full third quarter report anywhere. Was looking to see what happened over at Universal as well.

I always love reading the reports because they are full of stuff like xx age female felt dizzy after mission space which I'm like um yeah that ride kind of makes you dizzy you went to first aid and reported that? Sometimes there is so pretty rediculous stuff in there from even the tamest rides.

Yes but unfortunately because she passed out right after riding a theme park ride, it got reported as happening in Disney and at least exacerbated by the coaster.

I have a couple friends who ride rides despite health problems, and it always scares me because of things like this. You never know what will happen.

From the limited information given of her health history, and the fact that she died of septic shock, its likely that the ride had little to do with causing her death. Probably as much as the woman who died after riding IASW.

Agree. The ride probably just exacerbated what was a serious pre-existing condition. She shouldn't have gone on this or any strenuous ride. Sepsis indicates a major infection that was likely stressing her entire body.

If she was septic, she had a massive infection somewhere and she was going to go into shock and die no matter where she was. She could have died just sitting in her resort room.

Agree. Space Mountain is a relatively mild coaster.

I'm just shocked that someone who was septic had the energy to go to Disney world.

Given her health history, I'mean guessing she was on a lot of medications that made it harder for her body to fight infection. If she was that sick, she should have been in the hospital, not at Disney world. Her family should have made her go. Instead, Disney was more important than her health. So sad.

I'm assuming she didn't die immediately. They had time to admit her to ICU, so perhaps she developed an infection that wasn't symptomatic. It's also possible she developed the infection after some time being treated--it doesn't give us dates.

My daughter has a "heart condition", but she's been cleared to ride coasters. Who knows what this woman was told?

From experience with family members that have had septic shock I would venture to guess she wasn't actually suffering from this while in the park and it occurred after her ride incident - like a pp I didn't see dates in the story for this. Septic shock is serious and I just can't imagine someone having the power to make it thru WDW.

This is just statistics folks. When you have as many people going through the gates as do at WDW and Universal, eventually you are going to have someone die in the park. I'm actually surprised it doesn't happen a lot more often, given the number of people we are talking about.

There's something odd about this. Being someone who had peritonitis, I can tell you that the pain of a massive, spreading infection is intense. Far worse than gall stones. I can't imagine how someone who was septic could be hanging out at a theme park.

As a PP hypothesised, its much more likely that the woman passed out as a result of one of her preexisting medical conditions, anyone of which could predispose her to fainting. The septic shock most likely occurred while in hospital. It can kill in a day.
