As a PP hypothesised, its much more likely that the woman passed out as a result of one of her preexisting medical conditions, anyone of which could predispose her to fainting. The septic shock most likely occurred while in hospital. It can kill in a day.
Agreed. The article didn't say anything about going to WDW while in sepsis. I doubt she was septic when she arrived at the MK. The sepsis likely developed while she was in ICU.
Here's the thing, any time a major organ underperforms or fails, it puts a strain on the others. That strain can cause those other organs to underperform or even fail as well, putting an even greater strain on the whole body. This can potentially lead to a cascading event that kills the individual.
She had two weakened organs due to her congestive heart failure and COPD, plus she had high blood pressure. She took the risk of riding a ride she obviously shouldn't have, given her pre-existing condition, and that decision was too much for her body to handle. Whatever it was that specifically caused her to pass out, it quite possibly set up a cascade event whereby the toxin-fighting organs were affected, hence the sepsis.
