A wish for a special little girl! Catherine's Make a Wish trip! May 17th-23rd, 2010

Our Wish granters met us at a indoor Golf place and we had a small cake for the 4 of us.And we got our packet with plane tickets and itinerary then. (we had to cancel our orginal trip just a few days before we left)

Hi! I came to visit your PTR after seeing your post on mine and oh my goodness I'm so glad I did! My daughter is a Daisy girl scout bridging to Brownie in May and my husband was born in Baltimore (he's an Oriole fan through thick and thin apparently).

Your family is beautiful, thanks for sharing!

Hello!
I just started reading your ptr!!! You have a beautiful family!!!:goodvibes Looking forward to hearing all about your trip!!!! :thumbsup2

As you can tell, every chapter (or wish granter?) is different. I've heard everything from no party, to small party just the wish family, to bigger family with some friends and relatives, to HUGE party with the wish sponsor's company.
Emailing them about whether or not you can invite anyone is probably the best way to go.

For us, what started as a wish party with cake and all turned into dropping off all the information on the fly, so I really can't help you there, but I know there are people on here from other chapters that do the party and hopefully will chime in. How exciting that things are moving forward!:woohoo:

Very exciting!!! It's crazy how all of the experiences are SO different!

Hello! My daughter Selah got her wish to go to WDW last year. I'm not sure if our chapter does wish parties either. But our wish granters came to our house last year with a very cute little princess back pack that has a handle and is on wheels! Perfect carry on for her on the plane. They came with balloons and cookies/cupcakes! So that may be how they do things here in PA? I'm not sure if that's how the chapter does it or if it was just our wish granters. Now my son Chase is getting a wish! We haven't got our dates yet but I know they did tell him that they are coming back to visit him before he goes away on his big trip!

I'd like to hear about the wish parties too! Sounds like a great idea!

The backpack sounds so cute! I will just have to be patient and see what the next couple of weeks bring!

I hope they do something for her, but really, I'm just thankful for the wish opportunity!

So glad you stopped by, even it was by accident! My girls adore girl scouts, so I hope they stick with it. ANd the crazy daisies are so much fun!!! My DH has alwasy been a huge O's fan, but he was actually born in Rochester, NY. We love going to Camden Yards!

Thank you! I love having so many people to share the joy of the wish with!

I did e-mail the wish granter yesterday about whether others were invited, etc. She said normally it's extended family and close friends, but there was a "third party interested in hosting this one" so she'd get back to me when she had more details. She has me curious, that's for sure!

Get this.... I had to vent and I knew you would understand- being a troop leader and all-

One of the girls in our troop has not turned in their cookie money and their mother won't answer phone calls or e-mails or anything. Cookie money was due over a month ago and even worse- she owes over $450!!!! That was the majority of the girls profit! :sad1: They had planned a big pizza, skating or swimming party and now, we can't afford to do it because of one family. It is soo not fair!! What do I tell Aleks and the rest of the troop?:confused3

Sorry for venting here, but I dunno what to do..... What would you do as a troop leader? How should we tell the girls?

THanks for coming over and checking out my PTR!! I started reading your reports this morning, too.
I hope you enjoy them both. I tried to make them very detailed to help future families!

DH and I actually just went to Opening Day at Camden Yards on Friday! The kids spent the day with grandma and grandpa while we watched the O's lose. Hubby is a big baseball fan, so it was a great treat for him...even though they lost!:rotfl:
I cheer for them each year through wins and losses too!
You gave me some great advice on our itinerary! I'm glad for the good report on Marrakesh! DH and I are hoping it will be fun for the kids! :thumbsup2 Ooooh, and finding Daisy will be a big hit for Catherine!

I think you should be able to find Daisy several times!
You mentioned that you miss Camden Yards. Did you live in the area? My brother actually lives in KC! I LOVE it there!

I lived there when I was little and actually went to the old ball park. My grandmother and Aunt lived outside of DC in Harper's Ferry, WV when my husband and I were married. We were married there since my grandmother was in her 90's and could not travel. Then we spent our honeymoon in Baltimore for 3 nights. We went to Camden Yards for a game a few days before the wedding and we saw the Ravens pre-season game the night of our wedding. They played the Packers and it was raining hard so we could sit almost right on the field. Then the Packers won the Super Bowl that year. When my grandmother was still here, I would go visit at least once a year, but I have not been back in awhile. I also spent my senior year odf high school and my freshman year of college in the Roanoke area after living in Akron and Tulsa. We moved a lot when I was young.

... I love reading about lovely MAW families... Your family is darling!
Your trip will be here before you know it! What a whirlwind!!!:goodvibes

You may vent here anytime you like, my dear! I'm sorry this mom is giving your troop fits, but I think if she signed all of the paperwork before selling cookies, then your service unit or council should be the ones dealing with her at this point. That's how things work around here, so I hope you get some support there! What a bummer for the girls, and especially her DD.

I've lived her pretty much my whole life with a couple of relocations to Minnesota and Indiana...otherwise I was born and raised here and don't expect to move anytime soon!! Baltimore is fun..technically we live in a DC suburb, but we live actually about equal distances from either Baltimore or Wash DC. (But that does NOT make us Nationals fans! :lmao:) It DOES make a me a Redskins fan though. DH bleeds blue and red for the Bills though. :)

:welcome: Thanks for coming over to check out my PTR. I feel like we've only just begun....and it IS sneaking up SO quickly!!! So yes, whirlwind describes it perfectly!!

So, the wish party remains pretty much a mystery. I now know that we will see our wish granters on April 30th at 7:30 pm. My parents will be there as well. No other details. I don't know if we're going anywhere or who is involved in this.

Perhaps I should just kick back and enjoy the moment now. Make a Wish is awesome. They truly do great things for kids who really deserve it. :wizard:

Joining in, I just read your whole report and you have a beautiful family. Congrats on the Big Give!

I just wanted to say God bless you and your daughter. I recently miscarried and found out it was a little girl with Turner Syndrome.I would've taken her anyway she was :-( I would have given ANYTHING to take her to DH and I's favorite place in the world. I hope you enjoy every single second of your special trip and make memories that last a lifetime! God bless u and your beautiful family

Just hopped over here to say hi on your PTR and subscribe. So cool that we will be there at the same time. We will have to exchange cell numbers or make plans to meet up sometime at least to say hi while we are there!

Ok as I'm catching up on your PTR (I need about 12 more hours in a day just for Disboards!) just wanted to sympathize with the ants in my pants about not knowing things and knowing I should just sit back and enjoy the experience but wanting to KNOW!!! and NOW!!! :littleangel: Hehe

Our coordinator did tell me when she gave me dates today that they would have a limo to drop us off and pick us up at the airport. But that's about all she said. Oh yeah and to watch the mail tomorrow for several envelopes of "stuff" :goodvibes

I'm just hoping the flight arrangements and GKTW and everything went ok today. I would think if they hadn't she would have called back for alternate dates right? :scared1:

 I have three beautiful children, but have miscarried two as well. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I know exactly what you mean. Most mothers just know how to love unconditionally. We are blessed to have this experience, and I know that the memories we will make will never be replaced. Thanks for checking out my PTR. :)

Definitely!! We know of one other family (not here on the DIS) who will be there at the same time, from another online support group I am a part of. I'd love to connect while we are there. I have to admit, a margarita at the end of a Disney day sounds fantastic! :thumbsup2

I'm sure it will all fall into place! I was amazed at how fast it all came together. We were told we'd have airport transportation, but I have no idea what or how. Can't wait to see what you get in your mailbox!

Lots of pixie dust around here today!

Carmella brought in the mail this afternoon, and surprise! There was a postcard from Mickey and Friends!! The kids were amazed that Mickey would think of them, and Carmella said that she is going to make sure to thank Mickey personally when she gets to Disney. :thanks: Mickey Mouse (noahsketomom!) It really made their day!!

Last week, someone read my PTR, and sent me a PM that she would like to send a Belle dress to Catherine after reading our story, since her DD had two. I am just in awe of the thoughtfulness of complete strangers here on the DIS! Because the box appeared late last night on our front step, she couldn't open it until after school today.

I got a package!!!

Thank you so much llaxton!!! THese beautiful, brand new dresses!! I can't even begin to express how thankful we are for this huge unexpected gift!!! You are so thoughtful.

What gorgeous dresses!!! She will be a princess for sure on your trip! I can't believe how giving some of the people are here on the Dis. Those were truly amazing!!! :goodvibes:goodvibes I bet she wants to wear them already, or is she the type who wants to save them for that special day of princess meeting? :thumbsup2

OH, they tried them on...even Carmella squeezed into them! My battery went dead on my camera, so they are on the charger right now. I missed the modeling pictures! I'll try to get some later. At least I got her holding them up. I cannot even begin to tell you how excited Catherine was to get this package!!

And excuse my mess and laundry in the background! It's never ending around here!

No excuses necessary. Makes me (and probably some others) feel better

Great px! Fun dresses! No more dress-up days for my little princess (ok, off to cry in the corner now:sad1:)
