A whole new World... UPDATED with Animal Kingdom Day

We went for Lydia's annual check up at the heart center today. She did SO good! She never cried once and was still on the echocardiogram (ultrasound on the heart) table the whole time. Tobias on the other hand was a bulldozer in the playarea and slammed riding toy cars into walls, pulled the megablocks castle down and tried tp explore the garbage can... (what is it with that boy and garbage??). I'm starting to wonder how difficult he will make our lives for us on our trip... :upsidedow

When we got to talk to the cardiologist (finally, after being there close to 2 1/2 hours) he had both good and sort of bad news. For now the repair and heart function is good. There is a moderate chance (50-50?) that they might have to do something in the future if the scar tissue on her aortic graft starts narrowing the aorta. Most likely that would only involve a heart catheterization (a thin wire inserted into an arterie in the groin and then all the way up into the heart), but if that failed, another heart surgery would be necessary... But a small chance of that, thankfully. The bad new is that the pressures in her lungs are still above normal and one part of her heart is enlarged. This will most likely never change. So Lydia will probably never be able to do a lot of sports or run really fast. But we are just so thankful that everything seems to be good with her heart for now! :) It was almost a relief when he explained about her lungs to me because she keeps getting these bad chest infections (think low sats and oxygen and hospitalization) and we thought that the pressures were fine so there was no good explanation. Her pedi had thought maybe she had asthma but when the meds didn't help at all it was clear that that's not what was causing it. Now we at least understand why she gets sick like that. I asked the cardiologist (not sure why I didn't think to ask before, but I guess last year all we really cared about was that she would live) if she'd be able to have children, and he was hopeful that she could (yay!!:thumbsup2 ) but she would be considered high risk and have to be closely followed by a cardiologist throughout her pregnancy.

So, that was the news for the day. :) I'll try to get another update up tomorrow. :)

:cool1: don't ya love happy news??? I'm so glad that things turned out well. Kids are amazing!

I'm so happy that everything went well! Of course, I'll send many prayer, positive thoughts and pixiedust: for a lifetime of good health and happiness! She's such a little cutie! My sister was very, very sick when we were kids, she had a brain tumor. I was little at the time, 3 or 4, but I know it was terrible hard on my her and parents. Now she's perfectly healthy, with 3 kids and a beautiful life! I wish the same for Lydia!

As for Tobias, boys and garbage? :scared: :headache: I have my kitchen garbage can in the one side of our double sink because otherwise Ryan takes the garbage out! He's even tried to eat things! :scared1: I can get over him eating dog food from time to time, but garbage!?! NO WAY!

When in Tobias's birthday? Ryan is May 30th. I bet he'll be completely mesmerized by everything there is to see and be a very good boy on your trip! Ryan's first trip he was 9 months, granted he wasn't walking, he was WONDERFUL! My biggest fear was flying with him and he did great! He loved everything and everyone!

Thank you, Melissa. Yes, we too hope that she will have a long and full life. :)

Isn't it funny about boys and garbage?? :rotfl2: Tobias eats out of the garbage can every chance he gets!!!!!!!! We now keep our garbage can on the stairs behind the baby gate.

Tobias was born middle of June 07, so he'll be about 18 months when we go. I think he'll be a handful but he might just be so entertained that keeping him in the stroller will be easier. Flying will be another story.... :headache: But he will have his own seat (using the CARES harness) so hopefully he wil be more used to sitting in the seat, kind of like in the car. We'll have to bring lots of snacks and toys! :thumbsup2

We just got home a couple of hours ago and we had SUCH a great time!!! :thumbsup2 We brought Lydia's little friend, Gabrielle, and they were so cute together!!!:lovestruc They were dancing and singing and sometimes just in awe. :goodvibes I didn't even think to bring a camera, so no pictures. Sorry!! :sad2: The show was lots of fun and quite professional, too. I'm not sure we would have paid the full price for the tickets though if we hadn't gotten them for free, they're quite expensive (!!!) and we had an hour drive to get there. But I'm really happy we went, we had so much fun! Even DH liked it and it takes alot to impress him. :rotfl: I think it was a good training for the shows at Disney and it was nice to see that she enjoys them and doesn't get too scared. The volume was REALLY loud here too, so I think it prepared her a bit for the "real" thing. ;)

To make it up to you for the lack of pictures, I made a slideshow on the weekend with lots of pictures of Lydia from she was born and all through her journey and I'll post it here for you to look at if you want. I just love that song... :)

I'm glad you liked Thomas!!! It sounds like you had a lot of fun! ticket's for those kind of shows are alway A LOT of money. We've been to Disney On Ice and the circus and it's like a vacation in and of itself!!

I'll have to come back and see the slideshow tomorrow morning, DH is sitting next to me watching hockey and would be terribly mad if I played the music!

Oh Linda, that video was beautiful! I'm sitting here sniffling with tears streaming down my face. Pictures set to music always get me. But, when there's pictures of a sick little girl set to inspirational music, you get a bawling Heather. Sawyer was very concerned when he saw the hospital pictures and he said "Uh-oh! Oh no!" But, I showed him "Look, she's all better!" and he was very happy.

I got to see pictures of you and your hubby, too! How cool! I love the picture where you're holding Lydia outside and you're laughing. Such a pretty picture!

Okay, I have now composed myself enough to comment on the Thomas show. I'm so glad Lydia liked it, and the rest of you did, too!! I can't wait to hear how much she likes Disney!!

Mary, you should make one for Lauren! That would be great!! And, yes, I feel that we've been able to praise Him through all the tought times. When I watched the video myself for the first time, it was like I realized again that He was there with us, crying with us... That song is so powerful and touching!!

Linda, I loved your slide show! Thanks for sharing that with us!! :)

After hearing about disboutiquers, seeing their amazing creations and seeing other people's creative gifts (Melissa :) ) I was inspired to make something for our trip too! I got ahold of an inexpensive but just what I need sewing machine and sewed a flannel blanket for Lydia to have in the stroller down there. :) I really haven't touched a sewing machine since grade 5!!!!! But it was fairly simple so I managed (though I wouldn't inspect it too closely :rotfl: ). I'm planning on sewing another one for Tobias (I already bought some Buzz Lightyear fabric and Thomas the Tank). It's really fun to make something yourself (not a surprise to most of you ;) )!

So, here it is:

Oh, I love it!! And it is Pooh! My favorite!!!! It is so sweet. Great job!

GREAT job on the blanket!! I love those fabrics. I was just eyeing a cotton print where Pooh was holding the balloons like that the other day. I know a few people who would love to have you join their group after your trip. ;)

Don't worry about making me cry. It doesn't take much!

Aw, shucks!! I am quite happy with it, it's so soft. But it's probably the easiest thing in the whole wide world to sew!!! :lmao:

Thank, Mary, I love Pooh too.

Great job!

Where did you get the Buzz Fabric? I've been looking but haven't found anything. :(

I found that fabric on ebay. Here is a link to another auction there: http://cgi.ebay.ca/Flannel-Fabric-D...14&_trkparms=72:1215|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318 HTH! :)

You flatter me, Heather. But I think I'd like to help out with the odd Big Give (some baby blankets perhaps? :rotfl: ) with some simple things or pixie dust to pay it forward. :) And the Disboutiquers are known for being great teachers, aren't they? So maybe eventually I can make something really cool too. :)

LINDA!! SOOOOO cute! Great job!!!

Thanks Melissa. :)

SUPER CUTE!! Great job! Can't wait to see the other one!

Thanks! I've just washed and dried the fabric now, so I'll start working on it soon I hope. :)

Here are my little ladybug and bunny:

This was taken right before me and Lydia went out trick-or-treating tonight. We had lots of fun and she was pretty exhausted poor thing by the time we got home. She was even asking to go home and that was with the prospect of more candy. Every time she got some she said "thank you so much for 'everthing'!" in that funny sing-songy voice. Tobias was SO offended that we left without him! :furious: He was SCREAMING!! :rotfl2: But it was pretty cold and he would've gotten bored just sitting in the stroller anyways. He had more fun staying home with papa and stealing smarties. ;) That boy has a sweet tooth!!

We hung this guy to great the little guests coming to our house. I don't really like the scary, mean looking ones (I'm a whimp and I admit it! ;)) but this one is smiling. :)

We now have SO MUCH candy, it's unbelievable!!! We'll have to put most of it away before the kids wake up tomorrow or else... :scared1:
