A whole day just at Animal Kingdom Lodge?

We will be staying a couple nights at Animal Kingdom Lodge as our "honeymoon splurge" before switching to a value or moderate resort for our vacation package.

The first night will be the day we fly in, so we plan on just checking in, relaxing and then going to Disney Springs or something.

We need some help coming up with things to do at AKL for the next day. Is it possible to have a whole day of fun activities just at the resort? Or should we plan on venturing out?

Absolutely possible! There's tons of activities throughout the day, four restaurants to try, a fabulous pool, and animals to see!

One of my personal favorite things about the resort is the African artwork. It's in the lobby and scattered throughout the halls!

Great idea! Since it's a splurge, it makes sense to make the most of your time at the resort. There is a free tour of the restaurants Boma and Jiko in the late afternoon, which includes a zebra dome. Also check at the front desk for the day's schedule of activities. You can explore the Jambo and Kidani areas on your own, too. At night you can use the night vision goggles at the overlook to view animals. You could also sign up in advance (as far ahead as possible) for the Starlight Safari tour.

Definitely spend a day! It is beautiful with lots to explore as PP have highlighted. The only problem you will have is having to switch hotels - you will not want to leave!:goodvibes

I'm probably a LOT older than you are (honeymooned at WDW almost 25 years ago), so at my age I'd say no. But if you're young and this is a splurge, then you could start your day with breakfast at Boma (if you're a big breakfast eater; if not then the Mara). Walk around and watch animals, then swim/hot tub a bit, and have lunch at Mara. Maybe take a nap, do the free restaurant tour, pre dinner drinks, dinner at Jiko.

Much as some love Disney Springs, I don't care for it any longer. To me it's a huge outdoor mall with lots of restaurants, so I'd just enjoy AKL and have dinner at Boma instead. Buy a bottle of African wine in the gift shop or the Mara (it's quite reasonably priced too), have it on the balcony. I don't care for the bus service at AKL, so you'd spend a bit of time to and fro. I'd just enjoy the resort!

Thank you! I didn't know about any of those things (I've never stayed there before) and I am super excited now!

When we visited there, they had activities that resulted in collecting different types of carved beads, if you did all of them you ended up with a full set of beads. Now, I am not entirely convinced this is a honeymoon activity, but, my son and I did a couple of them, and they were fun.

We spent the last night of a girls only trip there last year. The pool was great. We enjoyed our drinks from the pool bar. We walked to Kidani and honestly liked the animal viewing area there more than the one at Jambo House, one of them had some nice flavored water available to guests.

We had a great breakfast at Boma, but did venture to The Poly for dinner and Wishes. We could just as easily have eaten a nice meal at Jiko.

What a dream day for DH and me!! Relax at the pool. Get a massage! Go to Victoria Falls Bar! Eat a Jiko. Plus relaxing on the balcony watching the animals. You almost forget there is a park. I said almost
