A Warning to Disney Resort Guests

I love the Microsoft tech support call. What they don't know is I've been doing computer repair/desktop support for 30 some years now. I've heard every scam, every problem (including the any key call) and then some.
Yes, I lead them on, yes I love messing with them including telling them they need to find a real job.
I'd never unplug my phone in a disney hotel room otherwise I couldn't get my Mickey wakeup call. That's too important. :)

A big scam in our area is calling about duct cleaning. I used to get this call several times a month till I decided enough was enough. I tried being nice, I tried being rude, I told them I lived in an apartment, I told them I had electric heat. nothing worked till this.

them-hello, we are calling for xyz company and we would like to talk to you about cleaning your ducts. (sorry but I can't remember the real name of the company so I put in xyz)
me- you want to clean my ducks?
them-your ducts, we clean your ducts.
me-I don't have ducks
them-no mam, your DUCTS.
me-we have chickens.
them-mam, we are wanting to come and clean your ducts in your house.
me-I don't let ducks in my house, I won't even let the chickens in the house.
them-mam, we come and clean your ducts for your heating system. we want to come clean your DUCTS.
me-exactly how do you clean ducks? do you use the sink? what kind of shampoo do you use on ducks.
them-mam, we clean air ducts. they get dirty and very dangerous if they don't get cleaned
me-will you clean my chickens? I don't have ducks but I guess you could come clean my chickens. they would probably like it to.
them-click

that was a true conversation I had with them. I have not had a call back from them since. My husband heard the conversation from my end and was giving me very odd looks. At one point he tried to whisper 'their talking about the heating ducts' because apparently he didn't get the sarcasim either. lol.

Totally unrelated to your situation but I noticed I had a $2.95 charge on my room bill last week for "directory assistance". I went down to the front desk and reported it. At first they didn't want to believe it wasn't me until I pointed out that the time of the call was when we were at 50's Prime Time. They said they would "research" how it happened but I'm guessing it must have been the mousekeeper trying to dial out and maybe misdialed or something. I always check my room charging bill multiple times during my stay because of stuff like this. Also, while I was down at the desk there was a lady at the spot next to me who was completely freaking out because someone had come into her room while she was getting dressed. They were trying to figure out if it was an employee or another guest. They were offering to move her to any other resort of her choice. Scary! I ALWAYS flip the metal door lock when I'm in the room because I had someone walk in on me at BCV years ago.

Anyway, just a couple more examples of taking precautions while on vacation. Even Disney isn't immune to problems.

We got two pizza flyers under the door when at the poly in August. I told my husband it was a scam and he couldn't believe it. He looked at the room service menu and it said it was a scam there.

The Poly is an easy target because it's so close to public parking. We had a TON of fake pizza flyers at Kidani last year, sometimes 2 or 3 a day.

Thanks for the reminder about never giving your credit card information over randomly by someone posing as a Front Desk Employee. Someone attempted this in a NYC hotel once, but I didn't give to me. I also let Mom know about this when I saw her last due to her not traveling a lot.

WOWOWOW!!! The pizza one is really surprising and oh so sneaky!!! I remember getting so angry because we would get so many flyers in one day!! It was such an annoyance, because my kids would open the door and run in and once my daughter slipped on one and hit her head.

In general at Disney or at home, I NEVER give me credit card number to anyone who calls me. Even if I believe it is legitimate, I will ask for their extension at the company I am doing business with and offer to call them right back at their office's main line which I get from the internet and ask for their extension. If it's legit, they should never have an issue with that (and indeed never have).

In this case, I would simply tell them I would come up to the front desk to settle whatever concern they have with my card as it's 'easier for me to see the issue'.

Should't everyone know by now, you CC is never something any legitimate business would call and ask for?

weve gotten those pizza fliers quite a few times but cannot figure how they persons even get onto the resorts one time we stayed at the CBR and went to the--I think it was the-- Boardwalk to play mini golf--getting there was crazy--taking the bus to downtown disney and then another bus to the boardwalk only to go past the CBR --so we just walked back-- but security was right on our heels as we stepped foot on the property of the CBR

it was alot faster though then taking the round about bus

I sure got a good laugh over the ducts cleaning!!!!--that was classic

now if I could think of the good one for those obniouxious credit card people that can lower your rate!!!

I did have one awhile back about the car warranity---I asked the guy what car it was on--he said give me your information and I can tell you--I told him we have 5 cars so tell me which one--again with the info--we played that game for awhile till he fianlly hung up

I hate telemarketers !!!!

To me, the resort security is kind of a joke. Sure, they will be all over you if you walk in or even drive in with your car however, if I were to park at Disney Spring and walk over to the buses I can get into any resort I want. Just hope on one. No one checks to make sure your are a resort guess, no one stops them at the gate. You get on and you get off. How secure is that?? Lol.

If you ever do think of a good one for the credit card people come back and share. They annoy the h*ll out of me. There the worst of the worst.

Thanks for the warning . A lot of people won't know this and Disney should inform their customers about this. Where is the security?

I simply hang up or if on my cell phone if I don't recognize the phone number - don't answer it.

Disney buses are for everyone, not just Disney resort guests. That's why no one checks if you're a guest.

I don't think I said the buses were only for resort guests. I did say that the security is pathetic. If you drive in your stopped and asked why you are there, do you have a hotel/restaurant reservation? If you walk on same thing, do you have a hotel/restaurant reservation? You have to have a reason to be there yet on the buses you are never asked. If they are truly trying to make these places secure, as they seem to want us to believe, they have allowed a huge hole to penetrate their walls and right under their noses. That's all I'm saying, not that anyone can't use the bus system.

WOW!!! How scary. We always eat in the food court, but I can see how this could easily happen with all the cruelness in our world today. Thank you for the heads up
