A warning about I-95 in GA

For those of you traveling through Georgia on I-95 soon, road construction from Darien to Brunswick is really treacherous. There are signs saying something to the effect that trucks are to stay in the left lane. If you are driving a big rig, please do the same!!! The right lane is so narrow under overpasses that I wouldn't even feel comfortable driving my little Miata through those areas. Thankfully we left Savannah at 4:15 this morning and had little traffic through the area. But still I had to shut my eyes and trust DH to get us through. There's no way I would have driven it!

We were next a travel trailer coming up to an underpass when I saw the narrow lane. Good thing I was paying attention because the other guy was clueless. There was no way my MH and TT would have fit.

We were there last week. I'm having "FORT WITHDRAW" this week. Wish I was still there.

I was the one that warned you about I-95 on your other post. "8 days and counting"

We left the Fort 6 days ago and I'm in count down mode to go back.

There is some road construction on 95 in SC and Georgia but there were no delays. When in the construction area in Georgia use the left lane for larger vehicles like the sign says to. The right lane gets pinched a lot going under the over passes. Maybe down to 7' wide. That could be a big mess if you are next to something else large and both try to fit at the same time.

For those not wanting to brave the endless construction on I-95, take US Hwy 17 before coming to Darien. Get back on 95 South of Brunswick...It's actually a very nice drive.

You can exit at Georgia Exit 68 and take US17 South and you will run back in to 95 at Georgia exit 29.

OH! Remove thyself from I-95 sooner. The drive down US17 from Richmond Hill to the Florida Line is a great trip!

You can stop at the Smallest Church in America at Riceboro, Eat at Capt'n Joes in Midway, as well as stop at the Midway Museum and the Old Meeting House. Alternately, you can hit Pelican Point at Cresent. Seafood Buffet on the marsh.

Ft King George at Darien is the oldest British settlement in Georgia (though not permenant...that goes to Savannah).

If you are really adventurous, go over to St. Simons from Brunswick and visit Fredrica. It's a ruined town from the 1730s and 40s. There is also a Lighthouse in St Simons Town that you can climb.

Beyond Brunswick there isn't much til you get to Florida, but, you will get around all that construction.

The Boss and I have been going to WDW together since 2001 and they have been working on I-95 in that stretch for that whole time. Finish Up Already!

Excellent suggestion, very good seafood. They have ample parking for RVs.
