A waitlist question

I am just trying to make sure all of my ducks are in a row here. If I can't get my reservation at 7 months and get on the wait list, will they cancel my preexisting reservation at my home resort when they put me on the wait list? If not, do they automatically cancel it if/when the wait list comes through?

You should give MS instructions on what you want done with any existing reservations and how you want to use your points.
