A&W Stands/Restaurants

I read an article earlier today about how the last A&W restaurant was closing in a certain county in CA. Do you still have any by you?

They were never big here. In fact I may only remember seeing them on travels. Stewart’s Root Beer stands were more common where I have lived. Though most of those are gone or operate under some other name now.

We used to have them here, and the had they root beer barrels too. I remember on a road trip once we took a little detour to stop at one because we didn't have them anymore, but they only had the root beer on the soda fountain. They did still have the frosty mugs you could buy though, so we did. I miss those places - they were great!

We had A & W and Dog and Suds as well.

Quite a few A&Ws are left, but only a handful with the carside service. I used to love them as a kid but as an adult I wonder what my mom was thinking, letting us eat chili dogs and root beer floats in her car. I certainly don't want that mess in mine!

KFC/A&W combos are big here. I have two within 3 miles of my house. A& W was founded in Lodi, about 40 miles from here.

Looks like the closest one to me is about 45 minutes away.

There used to be one in a food court at the mall my old office building was attached to (15-20 years ago), but it's been gone from there for years.

There's one about an hour from me, so not terribly close. Still has carside service. It's only open seasonally.

I've never seen one here in Georgia. When we lived in Ohio in the 60s they were all over the place. That was our treat when Daddy got paid. All six of us kids and Mama and Daddy would climb in the car and go to the drive in and eat in the car. You could get a whole sack of them for some silly low price, we would need two sacks. I loved their root beer floats.

That brings back the memories, I can't believe it's still there! We went there every year when I was a kid.

We have never had any here or where I grew up.

None here anymore. I remember going to them when I was a kid. They had 10 cent chili dogs and you could get a gallon of their root beer for 25 cents..lol..I still buy A & W by the can, but it doesn't taste the same as it did when I was young

There’s one a few hours away that we’ve stopped at when driving to certain lakes but don’t go out of our way to go there

The last one I went to was an A&W drive-in in Hollister, CA about 20 years ago. That was the closest one to us at the time. No clue if it still exists as we moved out of the area.

I don’t really remember any locations years ago, but in the last 5 or so years, they seem to be popping up around me everywhere.

We have lots of them here both stand alone stores and in food courts. They have been around forever .

A number of KFC locations have closed around here. Others have been there a while and were always standalone KFC locations.

I grew up with Frostop; the ones in my part of Louisiana had a localized menu that featured seafood po-boys.
