My family and I are traveling to Disney in October (as new DVC members might I add) on our "familymoon". We will be at Saratoga Springs. I recently remarried after being a single mom for quite a few years. My boys are 10 and nearly 14 and totally love their new dad (they refuse to call him stepdad, neither boy likes that term).

What I need is an idea on is something really special that we can do as a family to celebrate our occasion! I have tried and tried for the Illluminations cruise but with absolutely no luck so I guess that's out. I had thought about a great meal...but where....? This is probably our 9th trip to Disney but never an occasion such as a new marriage to celebrate before. If anyone has any great ideas....please pass them along.

It took me 40+ years to find my true prince and I want him to know how much we all love and appreciate him. For the record, we met online...at Match.com. Fairytales can come true....;)

what a nice occasion to celebrate...I wouldn't give up on that Illumination cruise. There are always cancellations. or how about a Wishes Cruise? Carriage ride at Fort WIlderness? I am sure you will be able to find lots of fun ways to celebrate your familymoon.

Congratulations!

Besides Lisa's great ideas here are two others.

Rent the Grand I (at least that is what I think it is called). It's a beautiful cabincruiser that will pick you up at the GF and cruise around Seven Seas and Bay Lake. This is a very expensive option and as such probably easier to book. You can even order dinner or appetizers from I think any GF restaurant to be served. We haven't done this.....$$$$....but it does look romantic.

Cheaper idea....rent a pontoon boat from one of the MK resorts and take along a special picnic one afternoon.

Congratulations to all four of you! :sunny:

I'm sure that others will have some great ideas to celebrate, but I just wanted to say that I am so happy for you and your boys. A lifetime of happiness for you and your new husband and the boys.

I hope your WDW visit is a very special time. :grouphug:

You might wish to look up some of the posts by Janet2k where she describes her wedding at WDW. She brings out many things that are at WDW that I didn't know were there. It might be helpful.

I vote for the Grand One. I have wanted to do this ever since I saw it on Undiscovered Disney. It is beautiful and luxurious and it would be so fun to be watching Wishes and toasting with champagne, maybe sparking cider for the boys, but if you live in France, maybe they drink champagne or wine.

Please let us know what you decide to do.

Congratulations on your new life event.

You must get a family portrait made at WDW. Not just the ones like you get at the entrance to the park. They used to do them over in Studio M at DTD. I'm not sure where it is now.

Have you requested a DTD view? You can see the fireworks at midnight from your balcony.

First ~CONGRATS!!! It sounds like your boys and you hit the jackpot. Love is amazing, isn't it?! Maybe you could ask to share an illuminations cruise with someone, I think there is a thread on Theme parks BB. You also can hire an offical WDW Photographer. They take you to great locations and do an awesome job. I think its for 2-3 hours. It would be a wedding album of sorts. Let us know what you do. Once again, Congrats!!!!

Keep checking that Illuminations Cruise. We picked one up about 10 days out this May.

This may not be as grand as you were hoping, but what about dinner at Ohana at the Polynesian. After all, ohana means family. You can preorder a cake to be served as dessert. Schedule your dinner in time to see the fireworks from your table.

My husband surprised me with a birthday there a few years ago and it was magical!

There is an artist at Beach Club that will do a picture of you, I believe it is in chalk, or pastels, I'm sorry I'm not sure of the medium she uses.

Is the dolphin experience still available? Learning to surf together? How about the segway rides at Epcot? A backstage tour?

First of all, congratulations! Sounds like you're going to have a very special familymoon! I really love that term...

Have you tried the Theme Parks board on the DIS to possibly share an Illuminations Cruise with someone else? There are often people out there who book the cruise but have openings and are willing to split the costs. Try: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=560160

What a lovely idea.

We've done both Illuminations and Wishes Cruises and I am sure that the boys might like Illuminations just a tad more but since it is such a special occasion I would book Wishes (seems so appropriate) with a party addition like cake and pop (it does cost more) but hey you want to make it special! One note the pontoons for Wishes now have music on board also.

Blessings to you and your family!

Wow...thanks for all the great ideas! I will follow up on several and let you know what I've come up with (if you're interested that is..lol).

Also, thanks for all the well wishes....I am happier now than I've ever been. Life is too short to be spent unhappy. (or to be married to someone you don't want to be as I once was) I sure am glad I wised up all those years ago.

I wish everyone on here the happiness that I've found,
Esmerelda :)

I know I'm interested, I sent a note to someone today, telling her about your "family moon."

Best wishes!

This may be a silly suggestion...but several places offer the temporary tatoos, maybe the boys could get a red heart w/Dad in the middle? You could also order a special cake from the bakery @ Boardwalk. There's lots of little things you could do like that throughout your familymoon. Best wishes on your new life together. :goodvibes

P.S. Definitely keep us posted on what you come up with!!!

Pick a family tradition. Some people get a Christmas ornament each year. Others take their picture in the same spot (pick one that isn't likely to turn into the next attraction). Some always go to Chef Mickey's the first night. Pick one that's sustainable.

And congrats.
