A very Inspirational Weight Loss Story

Bless her heart! What a brave and determined soul. Thanks for the link, Jody. I'm so glad I read that.

My husband has a first cousin who wears a 6X, I have no idea how much she weighs. She has done almost everything except bypass surgery and Atkins.

She did liquid protein and got down to 150 but all of her weight returned plus more, she had her stomach stapled, same result. Weight Watchers never came close to helping her.

I hesitate to say anything to her about Atkins because it is a decision she has to make herself. All of her life people have tried to "help her" with her weight problem and only she can do that.

She is a beautiful person inside and out, how I would love for her to find a solution like this.

Kath -- would you feel comfortable sharing this story with her? Maybe print it out and send it to her so she knows that a change is possible. ((((HUGS))))) to your Cousin in Law!

I think that if I were in her situation, it would offend me for someone to send me this. I'm not nearly as big as she is and I get a little ticked when people send me diet stuff unsolicited.

If we had been discussing this topic recently, then I would send it to her but I haven't seen her in a long time. She has too much trouble walking now to attend family gatherings anymore :(

Her husband has always been a very small person and suddenly began gaining weight and is actually eating a controlled carbohydrate diet. So it isn't as though she doesn't know about the plan. She just refuses to try it so far. I'm not sure why.

I imagine she will eventually try Atkins or something similar. My husbands mother and sister were so impressed with our success and health improvement eating controlled a carbohydrate diet that they, too, have started eating this way. They live in Houston and so does his cousin. I'm hoping they will be able to let her know about the benefits.

I only hope and pray that she decides to try something like this before she is totally disabled or, worse, before she has a heart attack or stroke. The genetics for something catastrophic like that happening are in place, her father died of massive coronary at age 38 :( (and he was a normal weight person).

I will bide my time and when the time is right I will send her a link to that success story. I know a large part of her resistance to trying another weight loss plan is because she has so much to lose that she doesn't have the heart to even try anymore.

Thanks for posting the link for us, Jody. It was a wonderful story to read.

I know this is quite old but I have an update.

My husband's cousin has been eating the Atkins way for about a month, now.

She is too heavy to use a scale so I don't know how much she has lost. She could go to a feed store and ask them to weigh her but how humiliating that would be :( I've told my MIL (who she trusts implicitly) to measure her so that she can have something tangible to see that she has definitely made progress.

Her clothing is getting loose now, so I know she is having some success.

I pray that she doesn't give up until she has the weight off. It was because of this story you linked, Jody, that she agreed to try Atkins. I told my mil and sil about it and they told her. She has hope now. I know she was discouraged because she has so much to lose, at least now she knows that she can succeed, because this brave person succeeded.

Thanks again, Jody, for posting this link. You may have helped to save a life.

Katholyn, sending prayers & PD to your husband's cousin. I hope she will be successful this time. Do you think she might be willing to join us here on WISH? Maybe even just lurking for a while might help keep her motivated.

I don't know. I can send her a link, just in case. Good idea, Nancy.

Isn't the human spirit amazing? What a woman! To never give up and just keep trying. WOW!

Bravo, Kath! :) I am really happy to hear that her clothes are fitting better. Bless her heart! I hope that seeing a difference like that is giving her HOPE and that it is building her courage to continue on this path! I would love it if she would join us on WISH! The more, the merrier!!! :)

What a wonderful story! Thank you so much for the link...This one line is what caught my attention the most:

It was 100% commitment or nothing.

That is exactly how I feel!! :):)

Kath, you should sent the WISH board link to your Husband's cousin! I am so glad she is having results on Atkins!! That is great! :)

Thanks for sharing Kath! If she doesn't want to join a public forum but would like some support outside of the family --- I'd LOVE to become an email support buddy for her. I'm sure it would be great for both of us.
:D
