A Vacation From My Problems (A Sept. 2010 Trip Report) - COMPLETED 12/14

fried shrimp, grilled shrimp, shrimp creole, shrimp 'n beans - Bubba

Forrest Gump

Considering it was 7:40 p.m. and my kids typically go to bed at 8:00 (and we'd been up since 5:00 a.m.), I was wondering if we'd end up spending our first full day at Disney sleeping.
Bedtimes? On vacation? At DISNEY WORLD?! To quote my 3 year old's favorite phrase: NEVER! (He says is with such flair, though - sort of a cross between Bugs Bunny and William Wallace.)

but don't have a problem with roast beast.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say the roast beast is from How the Grinch Stole Christmas. And it sounds delicious.

a) Jumped up and down like a madman when the pager buzzed, screaming, "YEAH! WE GOT A SEAT!! IN YOUR FACE, NON-ADR-MAKING-PEOPLE!!! WOOOT!!!!!"
b) Silently kept my head down and eyes straight ahead and gone into the restaurant quietly.
c) Said nothing, but attempted to high-five Mickey on the way in.
d) Given my seat to anyone who looked particularly desperate, or
e) All of the above?

I went with b).
Dude, it's your TR. We weren't there. Go ahead and say A. Or at least C. Or F: walked past all the people like you owned the place, and when someone looked at you, scream "How dare you make eye contact with me! Don't you know who I am!"

Goofy even came around for a second visit and hit me with the old "tap him on one shoulder while coming around the other side" trick. Being a veteran of this savvy move myself, I easily saw it coming*.
*Ok, I fell for this simple trick hook, line and sinker. And my kids all laughed at me. Then Goofy took my hat off and started making fun of my receding hairline. Don't tell anyone, ok?
:sad2:

On the bus ride back to POR, many mothers with small children climbed aboard, so I gave up my seat and stood. DIS Dads Man Law...UPHELD. :thumbsup2
Your momma should be proud. :thumbsup2

I'm with you on the food. I can't say I've ever ate at a Disney restaurant where there was bad food. Some of these "reviews" make it seem like they're serving you low grade dog food or that you can still see the marks on your steak where the jockey was hitting it.

Great update! I missed the lines, sorry, busy day at work today.

I would have gone with either a) or f) from FreezinRafiki. Both would have been completely acceptable and very Disney-like in spirit.

:lmao::lmao:

I will say that when we ate at Chef Mickey's, we were waiting in line with our pager and I saw that they were starting to seat people, so I commented to DH that our pager would probably go off right as we were getting to Mickey. And guess what? Our pager went off right as the people in front of us were getting their picture.

I was tempted to start yelling "Don't give our table away! Don't do it! We'll be there! It's Mickey's fault!" but I didn't.

Ok everyone beat me to the movie references (Forrest Gump and How The Grinch Stole Christmas, just for the record!)......but honestly all I could think of while reading the various incarnations of shrimp was "Spam, Eggs, Sausage and Spam," "Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Baked Beans, and Spam...." and so it goes!:rotfl:

Roast Beast = The Grinch?

You are correct, sir!

Don't get me wrong. We were quite liberal with bedtimes at Disney. I was just looking at the lines and wondering if we'd get out of there while it was still Saturday.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the roast beast is from How the Grinch Stole Christmas. And it sounds delicious.

Mmmm...roast beast... And you did get the reference, but glennbo123 beat you to it again. However, the judges have conferred, and have decided to make a special award of

+1 Bonus Point for Taking the Time to Comment on the Report :thumbsup2

As always, the judges reserve the right to award future bonus points for...well, just about anything.

...and was promptly escorted from the premises by security.

I agree. I haven't had a bad meal at Disney, and honestly don't know where some of those scathing reviews come from. I could name a few lousy food items once in a great while (more on that later), but by and large I've always been satisfied. They do a great job with a ton of demand.

I will say that when we ate at Chef Mickey's, we were waiting in line with our pager and I saw that they were starting to seat people, so I commented to DH that our pager would probably go off right as we were getting to Mickey. I would have liked to see this, actually.

Excellent job coming up with an alternate quote that would have fit perfectly in context. We've already established that bonus points can and will be awarded for this. Plus, Monty Python is always appreciated.

Loving the report! Even though I don't think that I'll have any chance of scoring here with the quick reflexes shown by the top scorers so far... :upsidedow

There's always a chance to score when there aren't any rules. I got my points produced in bulk at Sam's Club, so I've got buckets of them to give out. I'll probably throw them out by the dozen at the end. Anyway, I'm glad you're still reading along!

Welcome aboard Dave! Yahoo Mickey--I couldn't remember the name of the song. See that, you're contributing already! :thumbsup2

And yes, the mashed potatoes were quality stuff.

Hey!! I knew one of them came from Forest Gump, even if I wasn't first I am going to give myself some kudos LOL!!!

I have always enjoyed Chef Mickeys!! I'm so glad you guys had a great meal there!!! Cute pictures!

I'm with Jen on knowing The Forrest Gump quote. We are going to CM for Christmas Eve dinner. The food sounds yummy to me.

We must have had CM's on an off night because it was not good at all. :scared: The character interaction was amazing though. I am thinking about maybe trying it for breakfast. Eggs are pretty hard to mess up.

I will join you in giving you many, many kudos! :thumbsup2 They're worth just as much as the points. Thanks for the compliment. As I've said before, my kids obviously got their looks from their mother's side.

Hope you enjoy it! We all agreed we would have no problem going back to eat there.

Sorry you had a lousy experience. If there's one thing I've learned on these boards, it's that the restaurants are very subjective experiences.

BTW...Barry gets a point for finding a movie quote in my TR.

There's actually a couple over there. Probably mis-spld...but they are there.

TV quotes too.

:guilty: I want some Kudos. :sad1:

(sniffle) Here, Nate. Have some kudos. On me. :thumbsup2

I saw that. Nice work Barry! I can't keep track of kudos or points from other TR's, though. Just adding up the points in this TR is enough work!

I looked for the TV quote when you mentioned it, but didn't find anything. Maybe I need to take another look. :3dglasses

Kudos!!! popcorn:: Taste like Chicken!!! :cool2:

You know...you could just make up numbers??? :confused3

If you use the Red Lens in those glasses...you might miss the TV quote (think Phenias and Ferb)...and of course there's still a Movie quote VERY early in the TR.

::yes:: Tru dat. Tony's is one of my favorites and I read vastly different reviews yet we've been 2x and had great experiences. :upsidedow

glad to see there was still an open chair for me ! popcorn::Looks like I have a little back reading to do.I was never good with extra credit ,so I don't expect to see any bonus points :sad2:
