A Vacation From My Problems (A Sept. 2010 Trip Report) - COMPLETED 12/14

Okay, back to comment....nice update! I love 50's Prime Time. Those onion rings are to die for, right?

I loved that "significant progress" line, mostly because I've probably said it myself!

Great pictures at dusk with the neon signs.

Onion rings were awesome. I could go for some more right now, actually.

We've used that line as well! My parents are laughing somewhere, seeing my kids get their eating habits from me. Revenge is a dish best served with lots of vegetables.

And thanks for the compliment!

Great update, Mark. We've not done 50's Prime Time since the last time both boys were with us on a trip -- so we're talking about 12 years ago. I think Mark and I will have to go back (I would LOVE that chicken dinner). Your sunset pictures are absolutely stunning. And you are right...Scotty does have that look of "constipation" on his face.

:thanks:

50's PT was terrific. I think it exceeded our expectations.

To be fair, Scotty was probably in the middle of making a Star Wars-type sound effect when we took the picture. He's one of those kids that has his own soundtrack wherever he goes.

You're not missing much. It's only totally awesome.

:sad1:
I think I'd enjoy RnR. I can never get anyone else in my family to ride it with me.

When "deep fried" and "beer-battered" are in play, money shall be no object.

This has MAN LAW written all over it.

I got the Fried Chicken in March, and I ate the collard greens. Yeah, they were kind of mushy/slimy and green, but they actually complemented the chicken quite well.

:crazy2: If you say so. I'm happy to let others determine that.

When my kids ask me how much more they have to eat, sometimes I like to respond with a certain number of bites, such as 5. They will go on eating, and counting, their last 5 bites. They will then show me the plate again. I'll then say "oh, I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention and didn't see those last 3. You'd better do them again."

:thumbsup2
Nice! I'll have to try that one. Usually we end up making 2 piles and saying, "eat this pile if you want dessert". At times, the kids have been known to simply give up on dessert.

Trying flattery to get her to join the boards and comment, huh? Well, good luck with that. (Oh, and Julie - it's a great shot!)

Well, mild insults and potshots weren't working. I'm trying every trick in the book. Her latest excuse is that we're so far into it she wouldn't know where to begin with commenting. My eloquent response was: "So?"

She is reading along and enjoying everyone's comments. And she says thanks! regarding the photo.

Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside

Not a movie but looks like a KFC reference.

Sorry...just a description of what I ate, that's all.

You let Scotty run through the streets of NYC???? I've never seen it empty like that!

I have heard on numerous TRs that the onion rings at 50sPT are da BOMB! Glad you ordered them and concur! Hope to eat there someday. I guess I will make another note.

Is the whole menu at 50sPT in the viewfinder? Or just dessert?

Great pics heading out of the studios....:thumbsup2

That was near the end of the day, so I guess the park was emptying out. I think it also helped that it was a non-EMH day there.

You won't regret the onion rings! The viewfinder is just dessert, unfortunately. It's a cute gag, though.

And :thanks: for the kind words!

I think the only time I ever ate at 50's was when MGM first opened, but I think that might be one for the list next time. Hopefully it won't take a visit to SciFi off the list though... I'm hooked on the ribs and milkshakes there.

And like Barry said... you're definitely not missing anything with Rock n' Roller Coaster. It is just kind of like the Great Movie Ride... the A/C makes it good for a nap. :lmao: Can't beat high speeds and Aerosmith it is Beverly awesome!

I've never tried Sci Fi, but I heard good things about the burgers and flavored Cokes. I don't know if I can give up 50's PT now that I've tried it, though. I'm a sucker for a good fried chicken meal.

I need to get on that coaster one of these days. If it's just like the GMR, it's gotta be gold!

nice update mark.:thumbsup2 as usual, all the movie quotes went over my head.

Me too, Dave. Wait a minute...

DHS at dusk: beautiful pictures! I love it at that time of the day as well.

Your description of 50's PTC made me think that I ought to give it another try on my next trip. I think I really ought to try that chicken, sounds wonderful! But I agree with you, these collard greens look very inedible!! I actually think seaweed is more appetising...

:thanks:

I'm glad someone agrees with me. I don't know how anyone can look at collard greens and think, "Hey, that looks like something I should put in my mouth." :confused3

Your TR always cracks me up!!

So glad you guys liked 50's, it is one of my favorites, I think I might be ordering those onion rings next time too :thumbsup2 I was really hoping to get DBF in more trouble when we were there, but no luck

And great night time shots of DHS

:thanks:

So this is funny? What do you mean, funny, funny how? Funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh?

If you're getting nothing else from this TR, it's: order the onion rings, skip the seaweed.

Hey Mark, I LOVE that picture of DHS at sunset!! WOW! The one with palm trees is really nice too! :thumbsup2

I saw all those backstreets completely empty too, and it was heaven! Loved taking my time with my pictures and not having to worry about stray bodies sneaking into my shot.

We actually ate greens the other night. They were awul! However, given enough fake cheese sauce, I'm willing to give them another try.

Thanks Liesa! It is wonderful to have a piece of the parks to yourself, isn't it? I'd love to find some way to linger after the gates have shut at night. I guess I need to find an easy way to become the Disney CEO or something.

You bring up a good point. It's a law of nature (and Man Law) that bacon and cheese (or fake cheese sauce) make everything better.

Wow Mark. 52 pages and still going strong... Good stuff here.

:welcome:

Stopher! I'm glad you dropped by! Thanks for reading along. We've missed you around here...hope life calms down a bit for you soon.

Found 2-3 not so hidden Mickeys

1st is on the sign to the left at the top of the shot of the Hat....but the shop is called Mickey's blah blah blah.

2nd is in the shot of the entrance Mickey is on top of the globe.

potential 3rd on the Primetime Cafe sign...a couple of circles in the sign are almost postioned right for a HM??? the two smaller circles are a little small.

also in the picture referenced in #1 there's a big neon Pluto.

:worship:
You are so good at this. But sorry, pal--no points for Hidden Mickeys. :sad1:

the master.:worship:

What he said.

I'm still here!!....I'm still here!! TRYING to catch up......! Life has gotten in the way of my DIS time. Ugh -- the nerve!:headache:

:lmao:

Looking forward to more!popcorn::

.

So this is funny? What do you mean, funny, funny how? Funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh?
= Good Fellas

:woohoo: More points I didn't know I had!!!

The Beverly contest definitely affected the standings.

That is exactly what I thought when I looked at the picture! At least that speeder has handles on each side for power pushing. ;)

:thumbsup2

'm not buying that best behavior thingy one little bit!!!:sad2:
The first time we ate there, I was helping my cousins at the next table get their Dad in trouble since personally, I am so well behaved...... I ended up having to sing "I'm a little tea pot" right along with him when his punishment was finally passed down. Sucks when you get in trouble and you never did nothin'.

You can't say you don't buy my claims of innocence and then turn around and claim your own! I'm onto you....

They ALWAYS play favorites with the girls, and just LOOK for any little, minor insignificant totally accidental slip-up with the boys! Same way it was growing up having a sister!!! :headache:

You know, I never even thought of that. I'll have to complain next time that the girls never get in trouble. We'll see where that gets me.

My kids eat them pretty well, especially the oldest one. We have them at least every New Years in the fine Southern tradition! You have to add the pepper vinegar to get the best fried chicken taste complement!

:crazy2:
That is soooo wrong..........

I have not done Rock n' Roller Coaster. Notice I didn't say anything about yet? Because, like Tower of Terror, it's never gonna happen!

My oldest daughter did it in May with the hub and when they got off, she told him not to tell me how scared she was on it so when I asked her how she liked it, she said "It wasn't too bad." Yeah, I believed that one from the girl who cried on Space Mountain....

We have not eaten at 50s since my first ever WDW trip back in 2004. We liked it, but we just don't spend enough time at Hollywood Studios to make eating there worth it. I can't believe, however, that you passed up the S'mores! They are so yumtastic! I've thought about going there just to have dessert.

RnR doesn't intimidate me as much as ToT, just because there are no huge drops. I like pure speed, though. I like it a lot.

See, if you had a son, his voice would have cracked when he said, "It wasn't too bad", and it would have been a dead giveaway. Not to mention a great camcorder moment.

The s'mores looked good, but the brownie sundae was no slouch.

shhh...I'm groveling for points. :ssst:

The Frozen Monkey and the Meerkat are just too fast. :lmao:

Well, Nate, there are a couple of points still out there. One is in the responses and one is in the chapter. I made one fairly innocuous just so all of the quotes wouldn't get snapped up within 30 seconds of posting it.

Just got caught all the way up. I love your report. :surfweb: The movie references are great (although I think I'm missing about 90% of them ;-) Keep the great updates coming!

P.S. Loved the Flyers shirt.

:woohoo: I'm glad you're enjoying it! More importantly, our numbers now equal the Blackhawk fans! :cool1:

Some people say wisdom comes with age. I just make stuff up as I go along.

Too bad you didn't have any batteries to throw.:confused3

Well, I'm older than you, Barry. All evidence points to that saying being a total crock.

I used up all my good D-Cells on J.D. Drew and Claude Lemieux.

Whoops. The Frozen Monkey and Meerkat snapped up the response within approximately 20 seconds.

A true Philly fan wouldn't let that stop them... you could always just puke on the other team's fans.

I'm glad you're still here! I was hoping I hadn't said something that offended you and sent you packing. Which has been known to happen from time to time.

So this is funny? What do you mean, funny, funny how? Funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh?
= Good Fellas

+1 :thumbsup2

Goodfellas

So close...

You beat me to that one....I was just going to say the exact same thing.

These Philly fan jokes just write themselves, don't they?

Glenn beat me by a minute - but can I get 1/2 a point for correct spelling?

Nice try, but...no.

Dumb and Dumber

But you can get a point for this.

+1 :thumbsup2

Still one out there in the chapter...

A true Philly fan wouldn't let that stop them... you could always just puke on the other team's fans.
smiley_puke.gif

Yes, yes. You may have also heard that we once booed (a drunken, slovenly) Santa Claus (who stayed on the field after halftime far longer than he was supposed to).

Cleveland fans once threw beer bottles at Tim Couch, but we're the ones with the reputation... :sad2:

Still one out there in the chapter...

There are two phrases in the chapter that I am highly suspicious of, but the research conducted in my smoke-filled basement to the flickering light of the projector has not really turned up anything. I'm tempted to make one guess, but if it turns out to be correct I'd be disappointed...only one word from the original quote is in the chapter.

Well, I'm not sure which phrases you're looking at, but there should be more than one word from the original quote present. It is a short phrase, though.

Obviously, Captain_Oblivious would be married to Mrs. Knowitall.....otherwise, how would anything get done. So finally, after much teasing, mild insults and even sweet talk, I have joined the party that is Captain_Oblivious' Trip Report of Awesomeness. I have no idea what I'm doing....in fact you could say I'm going in circles like these guys...:dance3:

What I WILL do is this.....anyone who has given me a compliment on a photograph:

+5 :thumbsup2 (that's per compliment)

To the other girls who liked the Green Alien Guys:

+10 :thumbsup2

To the wonderfully patient woman from Brazil who translated things for my husband:

+25 :thumbsup2

And to the Captain:
-100 for teasing me about joining. So there. :rotfl2: Oh, and by the way, :wave2: hi honey! Are you happy I'm here?

So as you can see, my points are worth WAY more!

Wow Capt. your lucky to have such a beautiful, smart, talented, generous, gracious, caring, wife.

Oh yeah and she's funny too.

(Lets see that should make +35 Mrs. Knowitall Points)

Title of the movie Above and Beyond

I was trying to keep this to movies people have actually seen. :rotfl2:

Hi honey! :wave2:

I see my evil plan to bait you into commenting has finally worked! Soon I will control the entire TRI-STATE AREA!!!

And where did you get your icon picture from?

I have no idea what I'm doing...

Um...about that screen name...

Really? Where do you get your points? Costco? I get mine in bulk at Sam's Club.

And what's the point level that equates to sleeping on the couch? I just want to know where my threshold is.

YAAAAYYYY! Welcome to our insane asylum!

I doubt anyone could have predicted the twists and turns this TR has taken since I started it.

I would have said long-suffering, but those adjectives work too.

I see what you're doing there...very clever! Except there's one problem:

That's alright... your wife is more generous with her points anyway. :rotfl2::lmao:
