A Vacation From My Problems (A Sept. 2010 Trip Report) - COMPLETED 12/14

Okay, I made it ninja fashion through the first ten pages, so I decided to make the leap to ludicrous speed (Spaceballs), read the last page and finally join the cool people that reside with you in your TR! Now I just have to work in the other pages I skipped while trying to keep up!

Similar to you talking about coming up with your best comebacks approximately 48 hours later, instead of immediately like the CMs at Crush and Laugh Floor, I knew pretty much all of the previous movie lines you had.....immediately after reading everyone else's posts! (smacking forehead and moaning...."Oh yeah, I remember that now!!!"):sad2:

Look a Hidden Mikey...

No actually...it looks like a couple of potential DISers at the Fast Pass Distribution...and the little boy has a Mickey on his shirt.

"lalalala I'm not listening" is familiar...can't place it though.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I know Disney calls it Spaceship Earth, but it'll always be The Big Golf Ball to me. And many others, I suspect.
Oddly enough, my DS calls it "EPCOT". The ball that is. I'm not sure what he calls the park.:confused3

As for my wife--well, she's a nerd, too. (Hi Honey! :wave2:)
Oh yeah, nothing will induce a spouse to create an account and start commenting quite like name calling.
Is she reading along? Julie? Are you there?

As we got into line to hear Puddy's safety briefing, they put us into the front row.
Does referencing a character count for points? (Seinfeld - even though I rarely watched the show, my boss talks about it constantly. Growing up on a farm in Wisconsin, a show about "nothing" set in New York never really appealed to me.:confused3)

I won't do a play-by-play of the whole ride, but suffice it to say: I love Soarin'.
Me too. Awesome ride. We watched the "Legends of Flight" IMAX show at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry this weekend. Part way though, I leaned over to DW and said "its nice, but it's not Soarin'"

I usually come up with my best lines about 48 hours or so after being given the set-up.
Why do you think it takes me so long to comment on trip report entries?

Unfortunately, our kids didn't get called on, but we still enjoyed the show. Here, Crush has obviously been poking around in my s--er, my wife's suitcase again:
:sad2:
Yup, if calling her names won't get her on here, vague references to you being a cross dresser surely will.

The final cast member checked our seat belts, and at the signal, unleashed hell.
Gladiator. :thumbsup2 Was that cast member wearing a toga?
"That was... fun!" he said. "And FAST!" Grinning ear-to-ear.

Test Track... CONQUERED!
::yes:: :thumbsup2

I keep telling her to stop growing up, but she just won't listen.
DW asks the kids all the time why they keep growing. They have learned the appropriate response "Because you keep feeding us!"

:thumbsup2 nice update captain! i have a pic in a book of the golf ball while it was being built, its amamzing what is holding that up and how the weight is transfered down to the legs. tell dave not to feel bad, my dw (age i wont mention) has to be drug on that ride every trip. she always looks like shes talking the last walk going into that ride.:lmao:

Great update!! I noticed EPCOT's music didn't seem quite right in September, actually I dont really remembering hearing much at all when we entered the park...boooo:mad:

I LOVE ECPOT as well, I think next time it needs to be a 2 day adventure for us...because we just didnt have time to do much. I used to work on Living with the Land and I swear kids were always freaked out, because the first part of the ride you can see is dark and looks like thunderstorms...not very enticing to a small child :rotfl:

Loving the EPCOT update! I'm like you and really enjoy the tech and travel. Unfortunately DW doesn't feel the same way. Luckily, there is Soarin and Test Track to get her interested. :thumbsup2

Barry, you know that nothing in New York and nothing in Wisconsin are two completely different things. :rotfl:

You know, I was listening to my Soarin' soundtrack last night and I do believe I heard a FORE! right before the golf ball sails and I would consider it a movie, so I'm going with Soarin' as my guess for that line.

Fore = Caddyshack (I figured it's worth a shot in the dark)

Every man dies, blah blah blah = Braveheart

If Caddyshack doesn't get it I'm calling dibs on Happy Gilmore.:rotfl2:

Tin Cup??? Bagger Vance???

Disney's "The Greatest Game Ever Played"

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Wow, the sheer desperation for points is palpable! You're all wrong. I was going for the Looney Tunes episode where Bugs plays golf vs. Yosemite Sam's Scottish look-alike. Better luck next time. :rotfl2:

Ok, just kidding. I wasn't going for a quote there. But MissLiz did bring up the Soarin' soundtrack here. The musical score for the ride was written by one of Hollywood's greatest composers of movie music (and the Soarin' score is itself terrific--I actually used it in a home movie of a vacation we took to the Grand Canyon). For one bonus point, can anyone name the composer?

Goldsmith

Every man dies, blah blah blah = Braveheart

+1 :thumbsup2

The line sounded more inspiring in the movie, though.

Float like a Cadillac blah blah blah = Cars

Glad to see that Dave conquered Test Track! That's awesome.

+1 :thumbsup2

Again, the line was catchier in the movie. And Dave says thanks for the props! (Or he will, when I tell him)

By the way, that's a great picture outside of Test Track, and I loved your Carnivorous maglite-us line.

:thanks:

Nerd humor rocks! :rockband:

(always looking for excuses to use different smileys)

Great update!!!

Epcot is my husband's favorite park, 8-year-old and my 2nd favorite, and who knows what number for my toddler. She just likes to say Moush and Da Duck over and over and over and over....

I thought Epcot's music was a little more subdued as well. Although I've never felt the need to tackle someone, the music does usually put an extra spring in my step.

We love Shunshine Sheazhons! One of our absolute favorites at any of the parks. The big question is: did you share your dessert with anyone? Because the rule in our family is that if you share, the calories disappear. Even if it's only 1 bite, it's still sharing.

I'm going to go back over your update again because I must have missed the lines. I saw...nothing.

I've always liked my music loud, heroic and inspirational. They still have some very cool music that they use for the fountain shows in Epcot.

And I believe I did allow the kids and DW a few minor bites of the key lime pie. So I'm good! :thumbsup2

Mark, love the update.

First :yay::woohoo::woohoo::yay::yay: to Dave for successfully riding and enjoying Test Track.

Our youngest son (who is 22 now) still calls Spaceship Earth either a Golf Ball or Grandpa's Ball (it was my dad's favorite ride in all of Disney).

So glad to hear that Sarah loves Soarin' -- how could you not?

And I'm thinking maybe by the time Scotty is 22 he'll like the rides at Disney. :rotfl::rotfl: I love how you and your wife handle it though.

:thanks:

Disney itself calls it a golf ball at one point, but I'll talk about that later in the TR. Scotty was just playing with a toy blimp last night and pretending it was Soarin'. So maybe there's hope for him yet! :confused3

:welcome:

+1 :thumbsup2 for Spaceballs! Glad to have you here, Marvin, and look at that! You're already earning points. Anyway, I'm always happy to have the DIS Dads hanging around here. It definitely ups the "cool" factor. :cool2:

He went to plaid! (Spaceballs)

Great update btw can't wait for the pic.

Missed it by THAT much... I just hope you guys like the picture as much as I do.

A hidden Mikey! Now I'm just blown away by your powers of observation. You even know the kid's name! :rotfl2:

<--- I like your new title in the ID block, by the way! :thumbsup2
