A friend introduced me to the DIS, we are always chatting and comparing next trips and will call each other when codes come out etc. Anyhow last week DH Grandmother died, 3 oldest DCherubs were away at camp. They knew that Grammy was probably not going to make it another Christmas and we had discussed with them whether or not they wanted to attend the wake-their first. They would all come to the church service but I was not going to force them to go to a wake. Well they last saw Grammy in a very good state 6/1 at my Graduation Party and then they had seen her serval times at the nursing home declining rapidly. So anyhow, Grammy dies last week, they are at camp-3 hours away, and I am unsure of whether or not to call-camp wants you to do this in person, go up there, have directors tell them, or just wait until they get home this Saturday. DFriend family camps up there and happened to be going up Friday for a week. She offers to talk with my children and then advise me on whether I should come and get them for the calling hours and funeral. I call the camp director and arrange it, she has worked there in the past so they are familiar with her. She calls me Saturday morning and says that 10 yo DS crawled into her lap and she held him, 14 yo DS got tears in his eyes and asked for a hug, and 13 yo DD took it badly-she was able to calm her down. My friend sat with them, talked with them, and held them. My own Mother has never even done that. Cripeees she has never even babysat for me. She is not a huggy person-she is with other grandchildren but not mine. I started crying when friend told me about it and thanked her, no one has ever done anything that nice for me. She has even been able to see them during the week to check in with them. So "dgaston" thank-you my friend, what you did meant more to me than I can ever begin to express. Wow this sounds so long and all but I just wanted the DIS to know about a great fellow DISer. Oh and by the way, the boys did not want to come back home and was able to get DD to stay at camp, in the long run it was better for her and she is doing great now!
