A thought for the Day

Nice thought indeed, Kath, thank you. :sunny:

So very true, mom, thanks. :sunny:

Positive living

Living positively is more than just repeating a few upbeat slogans. Living positively is done with your actions. It's more than just something you do on the days when everything is going right. The real power of positive living comes on the days when everything seems to be going against you.
There is always something you can do to add positive value to your own life and to the world around you. Even when life does not seem to be cooperating, there is always something positive you can do.

The small but consistent acts of positive value, repeated again and again, are what bring real and lasting treasures to life. These come in the moments when you choose discipline over temptation, when you choose kindness over cruelty or indifference, when you choose faith over despair.

Such positive choices are always available to you, regardless of the circumstances of the moment. Make those positive choices, the big ones and the little ones, every chance you get, and they'll add up to something great.

-- Ralph Marston

If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.

George Orwell, Animal Farm

Proverbs 18

2 A fool finds no pleasure in understanding
but delights in airing his own opinions.

The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.

Archibald MacLeish

Lanshark, you reminded me of this one I once found

To the fool, he who speaks wisdom will sound foolish.
- Euripides

Here's one I recently stumbled across :)

Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.
--Frank Outlaw

A stupid man's report of what a clever man says is never accurate because he unconsciously translates what he hears into something he can understand.

Bertrand Russell

Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

Elaine,
This is so true. So true. :)

Ecclesiastes 10

3 Even as he walks along the road,
the fool lacks sense and shows everyone how stupid he is.

Matthew 18
12"What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one
of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on
the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off?
13And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he is happier about that
one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. 14In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any
of these little ones should be lost.

It's amazing how much Truth is in The Book.

I hadn't read that before but find it to be extremely accurate.

The wish to talk to God is absurd. We cannot talk to one we cannot comprehend -- and we cannot comprehend God; we can only believe in Him. The uses of prayer are thus only subjective.

Immanuel Kant

Ecclesiastes 8

17 then I saw all that God has done. No one can comprehend
what goes on under the sun. Despite all his efforts to
search it out, man cannot discover its meaning. Even if a
wise man claims he knows, he cannot really comprehend it.

Isaiah 65

2 All day long I have held out my hands to an obstinate people,
who walk in ways not good, pursuing their own imaginations-

I cannot comprehend how any man can want anything but the truth.

Marcus Aurelius

Psalm 145
18 The LORD is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.

It dosen't really make a difference what religion is right. What really matters is the one I choose to believe in. Because that's the one that helps me get through the day and back to my bed at night.

Let your mind be quiet, realizing the beauty of the world, and the immense, the boundless treasures that it holds in store. All that you have within you, all that your heart desires, all that your nature so specially fits you for-that or the counterpart of it, waits embedded in the great whole, for you. It will surely come to you. Yet equally surely not one moment before its appointed time will it come. All your crying and fever and reaching out of hands will make no difference. Therefore, do not begin the game at all.--Edward Carpenter

May green be the grass you walk on
May blue be the skies above you
May pure be the joys that surround you
May true be the hearts that love you.

Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprize, every expanded prospect.

James Madison

Eros, your post that one cannot talk to God is laughable. God hears the prayers of a believer and answers too. I talk to God quite often...He speaks to those who believe in Him.
